[12:00 PM EST - No subject.]

It's snowing. Yay.

KGL has a new .plan:

At least you know
You were taken by a pro
He talked a perfect game
Deflecting all the blame

And a new (more uplifting) update on that homepage as well.

While I'm on the topic of updates, MJO has a short one on how his life is going on the other side of the world. Anyone interested in hiring a security programmer guy? Laz also snuck in an update while I wasn't looking (which was just before he came over to Waterloo). Quite a long read but.. oi, I wonder what he was smoking before he went to bed? (And if he has any left for me?)

Now on to last night.. I went home to make dinner. I had put out some beef (which I got last year) to thaw so I figured I'd make some sort of beefy dish. The problem was, I had nothing to cook it with. No veggies, no noodles, no soy sauce. Taking stock of what I did have available, I realized that I had some garlic, corn, spaghetti sauce, oyster sauce, milk, curry paste, and instant noodles. I forgot about my tomatos.. dang, that would made for a much more interesting dish..

Anyway, seeing as I was feeling a little experimental, I cooked up the instant noodles and put them aside. Then I chopped up my beef and fried them in garlic, adding in the curry paste. After they were done, I threw in the noodles and fried it up a bit longer. Words of wisdom: Don't use instant noodles for frying, they're just not designed to be cooked that way.

It was only later that I realized that I could've made a dish my mom makes (with the oyster sauce and beef), or tried beef curry (with the tomatos) but hindsight is always better than foresight.

The food itself was edible. The beef was a little tough. Very tough actually. I wonder how chinese restaurants could always cook beef so that they were always tender and juicy? Gah, I have much to learn. This is one dish I don't plan to make again. (Maybe I'll try to get rid of it at JCC's place tonight..)

As I was mentioning before, Laz did come into town last night. Growly was wondering what to do, when he started talking about Dance Dance Revolution, at which place I suggested that we go and make fools of ourselves. He agreed for some reason and it was all set. They made it to our place a little before eleven and even at that late hour, the Cove was pretty busy. (How Jax managed to stumble in when it was empty, I don't know..)

Just before we went in, Growly wanted to confirm the identity of the girl he met on Friday:

"Was that Jax?"

Yup. Then he didn't ask any more questions.. (I found that kinda odd..)

Apart from Laz and Growly, we were able to drag out Werdna, and SC came out to play as well. So the five of us got down to the machine, only to see that it was already commandeered by a group already. They were okay, but the guy who got on it next was someone who knew the codes, and proceeded to go crazy on the higher levels. Oi.

After a bit of hosing around with some of the other games, the machine was free, and we tried it out. Laz took some pictures for posterity while we started feeding our loonies into the machine. We sucked, but it was fun nonetheless. After finding out how bad we were, it was suggested that two people could play on each pad, taking up two of the buttons. It was a novel idea, and the Cove attendent watched us intently as everybody (except me) jumped onto the machine and tried to show it who's boss. We didn't get much further than we did before, but the last time we tried the game, we actually completed a level four song, which was an achievement but we weren't allowed to continue which might mean that you can only play four dances. (Which is fine by me, after three I was already beat!)

At that point we left and they went to Abstract while I went home to sleep. Yo Jax! If it's ever empty, give me a ring, I'll be there in a jiffy!

I was able to get up this morning to go skating. I was a little late, but I don't think it mattered much since the rink was packed with people. Man, it was like drag racing during rush hour. Not like I'm condoning rush hour drag racing or anything, and it's not like I've ever gone drag racing during rush hour either, nor.. I'll stop now. Anyway, it was busy, and very short (only an hour). I didn't get to do much..

I guess I should try going out during those weekday skates then..

Found this link at ArsTechnica. There's a parody out there called George Lucas in Love which I really want to check out. Unfortunately, I'm not able to download the movie. There are clips available, but I would like to see the whole thing. For you Star Wars/Shakespeare in Love fans, you might enjoy this.

My links page is getting awfully large. I'm gonna be splitting it up in the near future for my benefit. I still have to transfer over those bookmarks first..

I got a cooking tip from KGL:

add cornstarch to your beef next time when you're marinating it

Which would mean I have to go out and buy cornstarch..

What the.. I think I got shafted.. but I have to go. I'll return later.

I'm confused - why can't you use noodles in a stir fry? I do this all the time with no problems - just add the noodles at the very end and don't fry for very long.
