The Clint Whitworth was designed as a fast and reliable second line support unit which combined the maneuverability of the Clint with the firepower of the Whitworth. Originally developed as a thought experiment, this 'Mech was quickly put into production after its potential was discovered during simulated combat.
Even with Clan technology, the amount of weapons and desired speed called for in the design required an increase in the size of the chassis. This pushed the 'Mech into the mid-medium range but still allowed for a small profile. The two LRM-10 racks provide the main punch of the 'Mech, which is supported by a single Ultra AC/5 and three extended range medium lasers. The eight tons of ferro-fibrous armour give the Clint Whitworth considerable protection, however the small ammunition capacity limits this design during long pitched battles.
To improve the longevity of the 'Mech on the battlefield, the CLWT-1P variant was introduced. Nicknamed the "Clinton", this 'Mech replaces the Ultra AC/5 with an extended range PPC, while the two LRM-10 racks were merged into a single LRM-20 and guided with an Artemis IV FCS. The weight gain from these modifications allowed extra ammunition to be stored for the LRM, and to have the extended medium lasers upgraded to medium pulse lasers.
The extra staying power from these changes made this variant a dangerous addition to the battlefield. It has been used as an effective hunter/killer as well as supplementary fire support.
