The 1st Oberon Guards, Oberon Strikers was one of the most effective scout/strike units in the Confederation. It had been nearly fifteen years since the Ryan-Morgraine union and the military buildup continued on both sides. When contact was lost with the planet Manaringaine in the Elysian Fields (one of the Oberon Confederation's protectorates), the Strikers were dispatched to investigate and determine if the pirates at Butte Hold were the culprits.
There was no contact with the planet when the jumpship arrived at one of the pirate jump points, nor were there any enemy ships dedected. However, upon arriving at the planet, the dropship was ambushed by a squadron of fighters, using designs nobody had ever seen before. They made quick work of the ship, but not before the ship's captain was able to drop the command lance and strike lance before losing control of the dropship. You listened to their death cries on the comm and felt the explosion as the ship (and your ride home) disintegrated in the atmosphere.
Upon landing on the surface, you realized that this situation had gotten terribly out of hand. Whoever did this had a lot of firepower and the only thought that crossed your mind was survival. After hooking up with the rest of your lancemates, it was determined that the best way to survive this encounter was to meet up with the command lance at the predetermined rendezvous point at Hanson's Hills.
