Oops. A number of errors in yesterday's entry. A spelling error and a tag misuse was noticed by Laz, while MJO found a chronological error with my comments about him (Had I actually met him in 1997, then it would've been tough to have lived with the guy the previous two years).

They both also noticed how some of my links don't work. They don't work because I'm lazy. I'm lazy because.. I'm human. Humans are lazy folks. They're lazy because.. well, it must have some benefit if we somehow ended on the top of the evolutionary food chain. Anyway, I tend to use links that would work once I've archived my pages, and since I've been slowly changing all of my internal absolute links to relative links.. well, let's say that I have to be careful where I place the file. This doesn't mean that you shouldn't keep telling me when my links don't work, I do make mistakes (à la yesterday). I'll have to decide later if I can be bothered to keep updating my links (I probably have to).

Seems like Laz has updated his homepage, as did one of his friends (mlbester).

KGL's been busy with the .plan updates:

No, its not that I don't care
Maybe its a change in atmosphere
And I've seen the signs I know
That it's right for me to go
I'm on my way
So when you think of yesterday
Remember all the things we said
And through the course of history
I hope you'll still remember me

After noticing the update, KGL immediately changed the .plan to:

This is the story of how we begin to remember
This is the powerful pulsing of love in the vein
After the dream of falling and calling your name out
These are the roots of rhythm and the roots of rhythm remain

If you can recognize either one, you're one (well two) up on me! (KGL did tell me where they came from - but I've forgotten)

Last night, I checked with HNT if he had any extra CPU fans. No dice. I showed how bad my fan was though. He told me to replace it. I think I figured that out already. I still wanted to use my computer, so I unplugged the fan, pointed my room fan into the case, and used that to keep the thing cool. Seemed to work, although I did get rather cold sitting near the computer.

I was able to update my books and get around to finishing Heavy Gear II. I have a horrible track record when it comes to figuring out the last mission of a campaign, since after I finished that mission I was stuck on (with a cheat - explain later) I found two more missions that I had to complete! Gah! Fortunately, they were a piece of cake compared to that hard mission, so I completed the game last night without a hitch. Cinematics were a little short, and left me wanting more, but all in all, it was a pretty good game.

Oh yeah, I used the invulnerability cheat in that difficult mission so that I could figure out what I screwed up with that mission. Well, I found out that I had to finish one of the mission objectives before I went off killing the space frames because when I try going after the frames before the engines (so I could go after them at my leisure) there seems to be an infinite number of them (over twelve at least). When I took out the engines first, I only had to fight against five. Big difference. So don't do what I did, complete the mission objectives in order.

Realized that the competitive broomball final was during a wedding I should probably go to on the 20th. Hrumph. Decisions, decisions..

JM gave a physics talk today, I nearly forgot about it until last night (he only told me on Saturday) so I hustled on down to physics and figured out when and where this was being held. I somehow got weirDo to come along after we found that article on time travel. The talk was fairly good, and we got free cookies (which I took advantage of.. Mmm.. lunch.) so I was a happy camper afterward.

Time travel you ask? Well, we (actually weirDo) read a book that referred to an article in Physics Review Letters that said time travel was possible. Here's the abstract:

It is argued that, if the laws of physics permit an advanced civilization to create and maintain a wormhole in space for interstellar travel, then that wormhole can be converted into a time machine with which causality might be violable. Whether wormholes can be created and maintained entails deep, ill-understood issues about cosmic censorship, quantum gravity, and quantum field theory, including the question of whether field theory enforces an averaged version of the weak energy condition.

They even thank Carl Sagan in the acknowledgements. For those who doubt me, look up

M. S. Morris, K. S. Thorne, and U. Yurtsever, Phys. Rev. Lett. 61, 1446-1449 (1989).

and read at your own leisure.

Went to the CTRL-A meeting and then out for dinner. Gah, the food doesn't seem to settle well in my stomach. Then again, Vietnamese food doesn't usually. I don't know why.

Fixed up some of the links on my links page and found out that I sent Sarcasm information that she knew already months before me. Gee, there goes one foot. Fixed some missing links though, that would've been embarrassing. Changed the navigation bar. Seems like   actually comes in handy! Now my pages should be a little more robust with relative widths.. a few more changes here and there are still needed before the change though..

Oh yeah, I would suggest watching Perfect Blue since it's cool, and it really screws around with your brain (which means you should watch it more than once).
