[12:00 PM EST - How my skating got someone else in trouble.]

Another day, another meal, another load of laundry to do..

I shouldn't stay at school too long. I've been marking ever since coming back from rec (read: free) skating, but I should go home to finish doing my laundry (I only did the whites yesterday morning), and actually vacuuming my room (You should see the size of those dust bunnies, I think they're building a colony or something..)

Aw man! I forgot to visit Renee on Friday. Oi, she probably thinks I forgot about her or something. Mental note: Visit Renee this Friday..

Well, let me tell you an incident that happened while I was skating today. Near the end of the skating session, I was doing a bit of weaving in and out of the pockets of people that were milling around the rink. (It was pretty crowded today.) I came around a medium sized group of people and saw this kid (about 7 or 8) coming towards me in the opposite direction (a little off angle). So my mind was racing like the road runner: Should I stop? Should I turn? Should I jump? Should I.. *THUD*. So I fell on top of the kid. Not too good. I got up and he was sprawled on the ice. That was not a good sign. At that moment, one of his friends came by, staring and shouting:

What did you do? WHAT DID YOU DO?!?

(As if it wasn't blatantly obvious.) Anyway, the kid on the ground started to cry, which really didn't help my situation much, so I told the friend, "well, I crashed into him", and I tried to see if the kid was alright. No dice. Moments later, an adult came by (probably the kid's dad or something) and checked him picked him up, dusted him off and basically sent him on his way. I hung around to make sure he was okay and everything, but fortunately, I don't think there was any lasting damage (This kid was well insulated and had a helmet on too - helmets are good!). So I went off and continued to skate a bit more.

Whew, I dodged a bullet that time. That incident sorta reminded me of a skating accident that happened to me a few years ago during high school..

A group of people in my grade had this traditional Friday night outing at the Scarborough Civic Centre ice rink. I can't remember who started it up. Probably Madelaine, but it's been so long.. Anyway, one day, the group of us were skating after school, and there was this family of three at one corner of the rink (this was a really small outdoor rink) and the mom and kid seemed to be in need of a lot of skating lessons. Well, I was coming around into my turn, when I lost and edge and hit the ice. I can't remember if I yelled or not, but I basically took the legs out from the woman, and she fell to the ice. Did I stay? I don't know, but chances are that I checked for a sec and left in a hurry.

Apparently she must've used her hands to stop her fall (never, ever do that on the ice, learn to breakfall people!), since she was complaining that she broke her wrist(s). Well, it's hard to tell these things without an x-ray or something, but I wasn't in the area at that time. FH was. FH came by to skate with us that day, I think it was the first time for him in a long long while. He also needed a bit of practice. Anyhoo, the person watching over the rink saw FH, mistook him for me, and seeing as he was having trouble on the ice, promptly asked him to leave. FH obviously had no idea what was going on, but complied. When I heard about this, I (with some support from some of the others) went up to the guy to tell him that he made a mistake and that I was the one responsible for the accident. He basically stuck with his decision to keep FH off the ice, even though it wasn't his fault, on the grounds that he could possibly injure someone due to his inability to skate. (What about the woman?? Yeesh).

In the end, I was still able to skate, and FH had to get off the ice. Fate is not always just.

And as a side note, the woman was back the next week and she looked fine. I avoided that corner that day.

Although my recollection of this incident is probably a little more broken than I'd admit, I don't remember who else was there except for FH. It's too bad. There's no way we can make up for that now.. (We're thinking of ya man!)

Anyway, enough with the little stories, I still have some labs to mark (I finished marking the assignments - ooh, did they ever get burned) ad some food to eat, and some cleaning to do, so I'm gonna head off early (Early on a Sunday?? Ha!) and try to get things organized before I forget..
