[11:18 PM EDT - Technically, I still am.]

I did my usual rounds at the ShackNews and came across two interesting links. The first.. well, you'll have to check it out for yourself if you want to understand what it is to be a technical virgin(check out the commercials!). You know, I know of one person would would not be willing to try.

The second is an interesting look at traffic jams. I personally go by the "coast" technique due to my ever constant need to reduce my fuel consumption (although I did end up turning on my air conditioner the past couple of days). But I have to disagree with his analysis of breaking a jam by inducing a traffic gap. The act of inducing a traffic gap comes at the cost of creating a traffic jam behind you! (And it there already was one, it'd just extend it!) Further, his theories only apply if there's a constant amount of traffic coming in/out of the jam. This is usually not the case during rush hour (when most jams occur) since the traffic flow is highly ununiform (until you're in a jam at which case everybody's moving uniformly - at zero kph). The two second rule is good for safety, but it isn't the end all and be all for stopping jams. For example, in his analysis of a merging lane, if people stayed a bit more than a car length apart (for example) then technically it's possible for the two traffic streams to merge at high speed. But what if the lane merges again? Now you don't have the gap (since you used it up with the previous merge) and you end up with a jam. Now if you slow down to create a gap in between the cars, you've just caused a jam behind you (or at least a slowdown). It's a no-win situation.

This guy has nice ideals, but it definitely won't work in practice even if we all did abide by these philosophies. (The fact that we generally don't exacerbates the traffic jam problems we're having but they're pretty much a given unless traffic volume is decreased.)

[QYV],

What ever happened to the discussion board?

Oh, here's more info on that song I was looking for. Its by Mary North, Mary Nord, or something like that. Still don't know the name of the song.
Still sounds like Mandy Moore to me.

"All I want is you
Here in my arms too
In my dreams come true
With you here beside me..."

Something like that.

Any ideas?
