[Tuesday, July 31, 2001: Return to Waterloo.]

I got up a little late today. I had planned on making it into town by eleven, but I got out of bed near ten. Skipping breakfast, I quickly left town and headed out to the 'loo. The first stop for the day was the university. I had to pick something up and drop something off. It was also the ideal place to make a few phone calls. Well, one phone call actually. The other people who I wanted to call were working at the time. After getting in touch with Growly, I headed out to the show to see how things were going. I had never been to a show early since they started doing those seminars, but it was interesting to see the crafts and drawing seminars at work. The groups weren't that big (around ten in each) but the fact that there was participation (for teaching and learning) that made it quite a useful investment in time and energy. What caught my eye were the linked PS2s in the main room (running off video projectors). Mmm mmm good! Too bad I sucked bad in GT2. Growly eventually dropped by and so he, Werdna, SJ, and I went out for lunch at.. shoot, I forgot the name. But it's the Irish pub that took over the spot the Urban Kitchen used to be at. (Ah yes, I still have that free meal card I got from the Urban Kitchen when KGL, TY, Riston and I went there for lunch. Ahh, that was so long ago..)

Anyway, after lunch, I went back to the show. I had to make a couple of phone calls. I found out that I could hook up with VanPi later that afternoon, which gave me time to watch some LoGH. Ahh, what a great series. Too bad everyone else seems to hate it! (What's wrong with political, thought provoking commentary?!?) Anyway, I went out to pick up VanPi and G so that we could go and rollerblade.

Well, I found out that the plan was to go out for dinner and then head out to the CTRL-A show. What? That was the plan?!? I wanted to rollerblade! *shakes fist* Well, we went out for Pho, and I was able to convince them to go rollerblading AND go to the show. (Basically, the idea was to pick up their rollerblades, and then blade to the show.) So, we did just that. I ended up trying to stop myself on gravel and took out a chunk of palm, but apart from that, nothing too exciting happened. (We did make it to the show and I saw the end of the second Initial D series.) The two kids were putting together a Kero-chan doll with the remains of the afternoon craft session..

Oh yeah, I forgot one thing. Some guy who brought a Dreamcast also had DDR and another music type game which uses.. uh.. those mallet type opjects filled with sand/beans. What are they called? Anyway, it was fun watching people waving their arms around trying to follow the directions, but I must say, DDR on the DC is very tough. It's so easy to lose your middle position and start missing the pads. It's quite annoying actually. (That and the fact that I haven't played in over a year!)

After saying bye to everyone (at least I tried to), the three of us went out for ice cream at DQ before heading back to the house. I had to drive Growly back to Toronto so I needed to hurry to pick him up. Finding the house wasn't as hard as I thought it might be (since it was getting dark and reading street signs in the dark while driving and holding my glasses is not an easy thing for me to do). When I got there, I found out that Growly had already left..

[Sunday, August 5, 2001: Velvet night.]

So.. Growly had already left for Toronto. Apparently he got a ride from his parents since they were down there for dinner. No problem, they had JUST left in fact so there was a good possibility that I'd be able to catch up - quite unlikely considering the condition of my car - but I gave him a ring and got directions to the meeting place.

The drive back was uneventful, and I found the place without a hitch. While we waited for Dangerman to get ready, Growly and I went through the Aliens DVD and checked out all of the neato extra scenes and information. Cool stuff.

It was decided that we'd go down to the Velvet underground after picking up Laz. We went in separate cars so that Growly and Dangerman could get some money while I went to pick up Laz. Unfortunately, while I was driving into town, there was a message on one of those traffic billboards stating that the left three lanes of the 401 were closed past 427. *thinks* But there are only three lanes on the highway.. Naw, it must me a mistake.. So instead of getting off at the 427 to take the 409, I stuck to the 401 and soon enough, I saw the familiar sea of red lights ahead and kicked myself for not believing. Fortunately, I was able to pull off at the Eglington exit although I don't know if it save me time or not. Anyway, I made it to Laz's place with Dangerman and Growly on my tail.

So the four of us wandered off downtown, and after a Phoenix fiasco, made it to the Velvet underground. Actually, parking that night was very hard to find. We went around the block twice before settling into one of the (tres cher) lots. As we pulled in, the car in front of us parked in front of the meter and the guy was feeding money into the machine. We sat there for a few minutes waiting for the guy to finish, but eventually he stopped, turned around, and started to look for more change! What the heck?!? With the lineup building behind us, I took Laz's suggestion and found a parking space before going to pick up a ticket (you could park first in that lot). By the time we had finished finding a spot and wandered back to the meter, the boys were gone. Taking a look at the machine, I checked the rates.. Hmm.. Full night rates.. Six dollars for weekdays.. Ten dollars for weekends?!? This is highway robbery!! *shakes fist* What kind of insane fool would want to pay ten dollars for parking?!? *swipes card*

So, we headed off to Velvet. Umm, Laz's story basically has all there is to say about that place. Not too much, not too interesting. Afterward, we went to check out the Savage Garden (closed for entry), and then.. wait.. I think I got it mixed up. Well, we went to one club that was closed for entry, and another club which had a cover. Unfortunately, Growly and Dangerman both were in need of dinero. So we had to find a bank machine. We spent the next hour or so looking for a machine that would dispense money to Dangerman and Growly, but we found out (once we finally found a Royal Bank) that something got really screwed up with the RB ATMs and there was no money forthcoming. Tired, hungry, and very annoyed, we settled on having food at some Chinese restaurant before heading back home..
