[12:00 PM EDT - No subject.]

Woo! What a hot, humid, and sunny day it is! Am I glad I stayed inside. I actually wanted to go skating today, but a quick check of the Icefield schedule this morning indicated that there was no rec skate this week. Wah.

I should have went shopping for food today. Instead, I spent most of the day inside, working on my homepage (and watching my fits). How pathetic. Then again, I'm not very fond of heat, and with the mercury reaching near the 30s, wearing jeans and all (Hey! I thought I was gonna go skating!) I figured that staying inside was for the best. Besides, I still haven't gotten myself any sunscreen yet. BTW,

Wear sunscreen.

I should have mentioned that Laz has returned from his journey to the other end of the country, and has been updating his page. You know.. it was quite interesting reading up on whateverthehell he was doing that day. Not like I find my life all that interesting mind you. I guess it has something to do with trying to find something interesting in life through other people. I can name a few, but I might get shot. BTW, for those who didn't know, he talks how he types. Makes for a much more interesting read.

Okay okay, he doesn't always talk the way he types tho, but enough.. so I'll just leave it at that.

Speaking of other people's pages, Growly's little Fandom Menace pun is pretty nifty. Yeah, so he's had it up for a week and a half. I thought you would've seen it by now! Yeesh. Anyhoo, during dinner after the Friday night show, ALee (or current president) said something about paying the bill with some ironed cash. I dunno, I didn't get the joke (and there's a lot more where that came from), but HaremPresident (or ex-president) quickly told him to launder it before he irons it. Now that was understandable.

I wanted to talk about HaremPresident for a sec. He doesn't do that well in school, but if you ever talk to the boy, you'll realize that he knows so much, and his memory is amazingly accurate. Coming from me, that's not saying much, but take my word for it, he's pretty good. Why does he do so poorly? He's in the wrong field. I'm not sure if he likes what he's doing. (Yeah, yeah, so look who's typing, but I'm telling the story folks, so be quiet!)

Where was I? Oh yeah..

I don't think he's the only one. There are a huge number of high (and low) paying jobs in the computer sector, and a very small supply of skilled workers. People from different fields are drawn and lured into this area by the fact that there is money to be made here. This is true, but do most of these people actually want to be facing a computer screen for the rest of their lives? For the first year or so, I would think it would be a novel experience, and I believe I would try it out just to see what it's like (Then again, I think I spend most of my time in front of a computer already..). But after the first introduction, this stuff gets pretty bored and bland. It's repetitive, and it really kills those brain cells (from all the alcohol you need to keep sane - except me, I don't drink.. but there ain't no brain to save).

Am I wrong? Is this what most of the people going into the field actually really want to do? Why the heck do companies give these crazy stock options if they don't think their employees will bolt in a couple of years? On the flip side, why the heck are some companies burning through so many programmers like they were kindling?

All right, I'm starting to get a little hypocritical, biased, and pe.. uh.. some p word. I can't remember.

Enough with that, I'm just glad I finished up changing counters (although I have to modify it to ignore reloads), making the main page HTML 4.0 compliant, and nearly CSS2 compliant. I think I can leave it now and start working on finishing up those uncompleted directories.. Boy, CV's are harder to write then they are to read! (Which is saying a lot).

It should be cooling down now. I have to do some accounting.. gah, my work is never done. Been thinking of putting up some things I wrote years ago.. but I'll leave that for another day.
