[6:49 PM EST - Sealand.]

This is kind of cool. I never heard about this place before. I think MJO or AgentP should go out to investigate.

Sealand, hm? Ooh, cool, a data haven!

I heard on the news this morning that, in response to the Napster thing, some UW student was going to set up servers "off the coast of England" and distribute copyrighted material. I wonder if they were referring to Sealand. (I haven't found this story anywhere else; despite hearing it on CBC radio, cbc.ca doesn't seem to mention it).

They were indeed talking about Sealand, currently rented by HavenCo. I'm not sure if any of the Sealand royal family live there anymore - there was talk of health problems of some sort.

Here's a link to a ZDNet article on the Napster-Sealand thing.

Oh, the fairtunes guy! I remember him. Love those in-depth news bites. Thank goodness for the Internet.

(data havens were postulated by cyberpunk authors in the early Eighties. Everybody thought it was kind of a far-fetched, kooky idea.)
