Hey, remember that guy who masquraded as a worker at an internet company? I mentioned it a couple of months ago. Anyway, FlyingS sent me the original article the guy wrote up. I found a (German) page with the story on it as well as a response from the NYT. Oh boy is it long. It's an interesting read too. I wonder whatever happened to the guy..

[8:12 PM EST - More news of the wired.]

I've been doing my usual news trolling and I came across two articles at ArsTechnica. The first is about how NASA wants to make planes fly like a computer game. Not like a flight sim, but more like a flight/space game. The other thing I found was an article about Windows Product Activation. No doubt someone's going to come out with a workaround for that..

Lastly, there's a link from the ShackNews to some page that suggests that games developers should take a vow to produce a truly innovative game rather than use the same old methods. Hmm, maybe Growly's game idea would work here?

Which game idea? I have so many.

My latest (and also oldest..go figure!) is to have a game that puts you (yes YOU) in the seat of Mission Control director for a futuristic space probe. The fun of the game would be discovering (along with your customized probe) what's "out there" in a wacky, anomalous region of space.

Trust me, it'll be cool. Oh yeah, the main "danger" in this game is budget cuts and loss of the space probe.

The game you were telling me about was the animal one, where you play the part of a predator of some sort and have to survive by hunting prey using your senses (smell, sound, sight, etc.). It's an interesting concept, but the big question is: Will it be fun?

I was also thinking of putting together a simple "game" which is basically a room full of people with different views on a particular topic. Interaction between the people will change each other's views depending on how extreme their view is, plus how strong their will is. Then you let it evolve, and see what happens. It's like the game of life, but.. different.

Oh, you mean Virtua Stalker!

Yeah -- the distinguishing feature of the game was going to be the total absence of text/speech. Odours were going to be a visual overlay of colours (the brightness gradient being mapped to the concentration of that 'smell'), and the "attacks" were going to be force-feedback-enabled. Oh yeah, it's from a first-person perspective.

I had this idea a long time ago, before those deerhunter games, or even Lion (where you play a pride of lions... it sucked.)

Whups..forgot to mention: QYV, there's something very similar to your game idea on the net, called Sissyfight. Look for it on Google or something.. basically, you play a girl in a playground and you try to out-tease each other by forming alliances and such. Very Survivorish! hehe
