[9:45 AM EST - DNS.]

Erk, I know how DNSs are pretty much required on the internet because we don't like playing around with numbers, but it's very annoying when one of them (or a bunch of them) go down. The internet is still accessable, but unless you know specific IP addresses, you're SOL. Hmm, I may set up some sort of mini DNS on my Linux box just incase the primary DNS server(s) go down again. *sigh* Time to start jotting down numbers..

Fortunately, if you remember one IP, then chances are, you'll be able to get around that problem because the machine that you connect to uses another DNS which isn't down. Hmm.. redundant yet vulnerable. Isn't that just a weird oxymoron for the internet?

[9:59 AM EST - DNS is up.]

The DNS is up. Time to go back to work. (NVM has gone metal shopping and Tiffi has fixed that link.)

[12:16 PM EST - Sciborg upgrade.]

Sciborg's being upgraded this weekend. That means that I won't be able to get any mail from that account tomorrow for about eight hours (which probably means sixteen hours). That shouldn't bother me too much since I'll be at a wedding for most of the day (and hopefully playing hockey later that night). Of course, this really won't matter too much since most of the mail I get is from spammers..

[5:44 PM EST - Anything under four is good!]

We have an interesting exception in our provincial sales tax. Any (prepared) food purchases totalling less than four dollars is not taxed. Now, this makes the difference between a 3.99 meal and a 4.00 meal rather large (8% in fact). What I've wondered is how old this exemption is. I remember when I was on Ottawa during a school trip in '85, and I could get a lot of food for less than four dollars back then. Nowadays, getting a meal for less than four means that you'll probably have to skimp out a bit. (Then again, my appetite has grown since then..)

In any case, shouldn't the law take into account inflation and other factors so that the four dollar exeption doesn't become silly in a decade or two? Okay, so inflation isn't exactly burning up our money nowadays, but it's nice to know that we're keeping an eye on things..

Okay, time to get going. Got some food to laugh at and humor to consume..
