[8:52 PM EDT - The ultimate playoffs.]

Uhg, I just finished a much needed shower. *relaxes* I had just come home from having dinner after our outing during the ultimate playoffs. I'll go into more detail once I recover from this sudden allergy fit.

[8:58 PM EDT - Armstrong Park.]

For some reason the ultimate playoffs are being held in Markham. I found this odd since our North East division tends to play deeper within the city (Sunnybrook, Ashtonbee, Seneca Hill, Don Valley Jr., etc.). Today's matches were held at Milliken Mills Park while tomorrow's games are going to be at Armstrong Park. Strangeness.

[9:38 PM EDT - The business side of games..]

I was doing my usual rounds on the ShackNews and came across a rather interesting look at the business side of games. I think this article, albeit technical, can be applied to more than just software games, or even software in general, but it did make lots of sense to apply it to the business environment that I'm in right now. Had I been in school, I don't think I would've been able to experience the intricaces of team planning and management. (Atlhough I do think you can be exposed to this sort of stuff in school, via group projects, etc.)

The other article I noticed was about the growing evidence of life on Mars. Now I'm not sure about what could be causing this pehnomenon, but it brings to memory an interesting short story by a sci-fi writer about how an expedition to the planet Venus (I think) showed that there was actually life on the planet, the scientists returned home happy and satisfied, but unknowingly left behind bacteria from their trip that eventually killed off all indeginous life on the planet. I know NASA has been pretty good at removing bacteria and any traces of "contamination" from our probes, but isn't it possible that we may have introduced life on Mars?

[9:58 PM EDT - Throwing into the wind.]

Ugh, it was so windy today. The warm wind didn't help counteract the humidity and heat, which made running around this afternoon tough on our aging bodies. Our first game was against a team we hadn't played before. We lost handilly 17-1. I couldn't catch a thing in the first half. All of my two-hand slaps ended up missing the disc, or flipping it out of my hands. It's quite embarassing considering that I'm (sometimes) considered the guy with the sticky fingers. Anyway, I started catching better and throwing better later into the game, even though it usually didn't help us all too much. Must work on throwing..

It's interesting though, during the time I couldn't catch, and many potential catches later, my brain usually told me that I wasn't able to catch the disc, and I didn't, even though I still went for them. Even the easiest catches were fumbled if my brain thought "Well, this won't work.". *thunk* *drop* "Told you so." Stupid brain.

But once my brain thinks that I can actually get a disk, I catch it. It's as if my body becomes a disc catching machine and I tend to retrieve discs from the brink of groundfall. (Not always, but nearly.) Mind over matter I guess.

So anyway, the bunch of us went to McD's for lunch. (Yup, you get a free refill at McD's, although how will they stop you from getting more than one refill?) Oh, I should mention that when I got to the park, I noticed that the place was packed. Parking spots were hard to come by and I could see that there was some sort of fair set up in one of the other parking lots. I had originally though that the celebrations were tied to the ultimate playoffs, but was not surprised to see a whole throng of children wandering around the area. I never did find out what the fair was for, but they sure has heck packed the McDonald's, and forced us to eat out near the pool.

After lunch, we had a double-header to play. For some reason, we decided to go for a zone type defence. I was against the idea, since playoffs were probably the worst time to experiment with new techniques, but was later amazed as to how effective we were, and even better, how little running we ended up doing. We played another team which was were beaten by before (had a cute Chinese girl on their team - I think she was their captain - looks sorta like KGL) and we lost 15-4. An improvement! Even more importantly, I wasn't tired, and it rained during the game. Well, it was spitting for an hour, so it's not really what one would call "rain", but the clouds blocked out the sun, and that was a bonus. I still felt good for the next game, and I think the rest of the team was in good shape too. (As opposed to the first game where we were dying after the game - we played 7-6 against them and lost! Argh!)

The third game was against a group we hadn't played before. By this time, the wind was really blwoing in from the South, and the sun had come back out in full force. This is also the game where I ripped off the scab on my left arm going for a disc I knew I wouldn't get but dove for it anyway AFTER it had touched the ground. Grr.. I had already broke my left toenail in the second game during an amazingly lucky disc bobble. (I should've dove for it anyway.) Anyway, I found out that you weren't allowed to play if you were bleeding (which I was). Made a nice mess on my arm too, but I guess running around with a wound would do that huh? I missed a couple of great opportunities. The one where I kept kicking myself was with a long throw from one end of the field that was going into the endzone. I knew it was going into the endzone, and I knew I was the only one who could catch it, but the guy on me was close. Since he was looking away from the disc, I wanted to fake him out by standing around until the last minute and springing for the disc. Unfortunately, I waited too long and the wind carried the disc away from me. Grr! *shakes fist* I tricked myself! *bangs fist against forehead*

Ah well, we lost that game, 8-7, and it was only because neither team could get a point against the wind. Too bad they started going with the wind at the beginning.

It's all good though. I was hoping to lose out today so that we get easy games tomorrow..

We went to Jack Astor's afterward to drown our sorrows in some drink and food.

[10:27 PM EDT - Bruised toe?]

Ugh, I think I've got a bruise on my left second toe. It's sore when I check it out, and I can't put any weight on it right now. It may be a combination of last night's dancing and this afternoon's collision where I broke my toe nail. (And all of that running around didn't help much I guess.) I wonder why my right foot's find though. Perhaps the injury I got from last year may have had something to do with it? You know, that left foot's never been the same since..
