[9:29 AM EDT - Driving Conditions: Cursed intersection?]

The highway intersection which I use to get onto the expressway seems to be cursed for some reason. Every week there always seems to be an accident at the intersection usually going east near the transfer lanes. This past week I've come across two such accidents. I was fortunate that the accidents didn't really affect my drive, as I'm either going the other way, or it's in the other ramp, or because I get onto the highway right at the accident area, but it's interesting to note how frequently they occur there.

[9:33 AM EDT - Then there were three..]

When I was driving around the parking lot, I came across two Canada geese wandering around aimlessly in the parking lot. Well, maybe not aimlessly, but they sure were blocking the roadway.

I thought that maybe that other goose that I had come across near the building had moved, but when I walked towards the building, I saw that same goose again, in the same spot, as vigilant as ever. I guess she's nesting there?

[9:39 AM EDT - Tire pretzel.]

I checked the air in my tires and found out that that were actually slightly overinflated. I hadn't let them cool down completely, so I guess they're alright. I thought they looked underinflated, but the extra weight at the front of the car usually makes the front tires look a little flatter than the rear ones.

I also forgot to mention the snacks that I had on my flight down to Vegas two weeks ago. Being a cheap flight, they gave us a small bag of pretzels. Being a cheap guy, I had to take advantage of all the perks I could get my hands on, and I figured that I could soak the pretzels in my mouth to make them easier to chew, so I started munching on the food, until I felt a sudden and constant pressure on my bottom left molars. I had somehow managed to wedge a pretzel shard between my teeth and the archwire, which forced the wire out and dislodged it from one of the brackets. I fished the offending morsel out and fiddled with the wire until it clicked back into place. It was only then that I remembered that pretzels were one of the foods that I was forbidden to eat. (Along with nuts, hard candy, and anything else that solid.) Now I see why.

[11:43 AM EDT - Give me your pennies!]

I was talking with KM and he was telling me that the price of copper was going through the roof to about three dollars a pound. That got me thinking, would the cost of the raw material be more than what a penny is worth? I did a quick check to see the weight and composition of the penny and was disappointed to see that the Canadian Mint switched from using copper to steel five years ago (along with all the other sub-dollar coins). However, the weight of the penny is 2.35 grams and the composition for the older pennies was 98% copper. There are 453.59237 grams in a pound, so there's about 193 pennies in a pound. That's a fifty percent profit!

Mind you, I'm not actually going to bring my pennies to the scrap yard (being illegal and all), but it's interesting to know and there are still tons of pennies floating around in the system, so I'll be collecting them from now on methinks.

[11:56 AM EDT - Speaking of steel.]

Actually, this talk of steel coinage brings back memories from two books I've read in the past. The first is The Shockwave Rider where Nick Haflinger melts down some coins for their copper. The other is Foundation where 'Salvor Hardin' demonstrates how poor Terminus is by showing that their coinage is made from steel. Fun times indeed.

[11:10 PM EDT - Time zones are important.]

I've changed my script to store the time zone used on my entries for later use. I'm just testing it right now.

[11:12 PM EDT - Spaces are important too.]

Yeah, and I had a typo in the script. Yikes! It should be alright, although the log looks a lot more cumbersome now. I hope to make it neater when I move to a relational database.

[11:47 PM EDT - Disabling those submits.]

I saw this page and that got me back into finding a way to disable those submit buttons. I ended up using a different method entirely which isn't very elegant, but seems to get the job done. I've also disabled the reset button on submission, so I think I've got both bases covered.
