[Thursday, April 8, 2004: Sliding rain.]

I got up fairly early considering how late I went to sleep the night before (I think it was around six in the morning - it was definitely getting light outside).

Unfortunately, the weather wasn't cooperating with us. It was raining moderately, but it had been raining for many days. The snow was very wet and slow, and my skis were still unwaxed. This all combined (with my lack of skills) to make me the slowest and least controlled member of the group. After going for one run down the main hill, most of the group decided to pack it in and dry off indoors. Only DE and I decided to go up again. The second run wasn't much better than the first. This time we went down one of the black runs and I knew I was was over my head. I couldn't control myself for the life of me! I'm surprised that I made it down in one piece! By the time we reached the bottom, my thighs were burning. It took a lot of effort to make your turns in that glop, and I wasn't expecting to get this much of a workout when I'm alpine skiing!

We went in to join the others for a drink, and after a while, the group decided to pack up and head back to the condo. Only DE and I decided to stick it out a bit longer to get our money's worth. The day had gotten colder since we had gone indoors to dry out and this was reflected by the fact that halfway up the hill, it was snowing rather than raining! Now is good, but this was wet packing snow and my unwaxed skis stuck to it like tape on glue! We stuck it out for a couple more runs before packing it in and heading back to the condo.

We ended up spending the night enjoying SS's lasagna and playing some chess (with DE). Actually chess was quite interesting. After the first game (which I lost - I would like to play that again since it was an interesting game) I continued to win. DE was drinking of course, so as the night wore on, he just got worse and worse. Eventually, by the fifth game, we decided to call it a night as it was fairly obvious that he was in no condition to play (castling incorrectly, etc.) so we joined in on the Trivial Pursuit game that was going on.

There wasn't much more going on that night as most of us went to bed early.
