[Monday, April 5, 2004: Coming back home.]

I got up late this morning. The weather report had predicted rain for the day, and rain was what we got, so I didn't bother getting up early to even try to do anything. Everyone was pretty much dead tired, and we all vegged that day.

After a few hours, we started packing up and getting ready to leave. Pezboy and JM were staying behind, but the rest of us were heading out.

I had forgotten that we had lost an hour due to Daylight Saving's Time, but that realization didn't strike me until we were getting close to home. As we left the resort, the rain changed to snow, and the roads (and fields) were covered in white powdwer very quickly. Where was all this snow when we went skiing?!?

DE was doing the driving since CM was still fairly hung over. The drive back through the states was fairly uneventful. We were the last to leave, but we caught up to SS and then passed TB and LS. (TB gave us the finger as we passed. I didn't even realize that it was them until we pulled up next to the car.)

Once we crossed the border, that's when things got dicey. The temperature had continued to fall, and the roads began to get really icy. Just as we got on the highway, we saw a commotion up ahead. There were a lot of cars pulled off to the side with their hazard lights flashing. Then we saw an overturned SUV, so I suggested that we pull over and take a look. When we got to the scene, we were told that the people were okay, so we decided to continue on driving. As we went down on the highway, we continued to pass by more vehicles that were either in the ditch, abandoned, flipped, or otherwise out of commision.

We had counted around a dozen before we hit the traffic jam. This jam was caused by gawkers on both sides of the highway, There was a tractor trailer that had scissored and was stuck in the middle ditch. Traffic was backed up for a good half-hour. Fortunately, we were able to get past fairly quickly and headed home.

We got up to two dozen before we hit Kingston. At that point I went to sleep because frankly, I didn't want to know. DE commented that it wasn't often when you were driving at the speed limit and was speeding by everyone.

We had lost SS back in the states when he pulled out for gas, but he caught up with us when we stopped for coffee. Afterward, I slept for most of the trip back so I don't recall much, except every time DE wanted the music changed, and tapped me.

We got back without much incident. There wasn't any snow to talk about once we passed through the Oshawa area (when I woke up) and I was able to drive home in one piece.
