[8:40 AM EDT - Going to visit.]

I'll be going to the visitation tonight. That means things will get quite packed today. Hopefully I don't forget anything.

[10:48 AM EDT - Productive, really.]

Hmm, I've gotten a bit of work done while trying to figure out what I'm going to do tonight.

Badminton last night went fairly well. I didn't kill myself and I didn't run myself around ragged (mind you, I didn't play too many hard games).

I've been comparing condo prices and noticed how expensive everything is. The last time I went house shopping was up north and the prices for a nice (large) house was about the same cost as a two bedroom condo in the city (now)! It's madness! Maybe I should try to unlock the power of the Super Seven..

[Saturday, June 12, 2004: Visiting an old patroller.]

I had decided to go to the visitation at night as I had to work during the day. The plan was to meet up with SP, figure some things out, and then meet up with the rest of the Vermont crew to see how they were doing. Afterward, I had a broomball game (the last game of the year). The schedule was tight, and I really needed to be careful with my timing. Well, things got off to a shaky start as I arrived later to the funeral home than I had wanted. (Very late actually.) I saw a couple of people there that I recognized so I budded in line as it seemed to stretch on forever. I has planned to put in the cheque, take a look at Tony, and then take off, but I was given a rude surprise. As I pulled out the cheque, CT told me that charity organizations weren't legally allowed to donate to other charity organizations. Uh oh. It's not like the fund would turn down the cheque, but I found that statement a little worrying. I didn't have any other way to donate though as I had left my personal cheques at home. In the end, I wrote the cheque and hoped that it would get cashed properly.

We were making are way through to the viewing area, when an announcement was made. Apparently there was going to be some sort of prayer. We were so close to the casket too! Oh well, we decided to take a seat and sit through prayer before continuing on with the visitation. We continued to sit and wait as more and more people continued to filter into the room. I was wondering if this thing would ever get started? I was already cutting it close with my schedule, and I did say that I would be showing up for broomball this week (or I probably would've just skipped out on it altogether).

We waited for at least fifteen minutes before the prayer began. I don't think I've been in a church for prayer in many years, so it seemed fairly new to me. I do remember going to Sunday school and church a number of times when I was a kid, but my parents weren't religious, and I wasn't forced to go. The prayer was nice, even though it felt very.. herdy. It lasted for a while, as they went through a number of prayers, of which I only recognized the Lord's prayer. (From my many years reciting it in primary school.)

After the prayer, we got back up and in line to see TC. He seemed very yellow. I really didn't know what to say, so I just nodded and continued on my way. Our group of patrollers greeted the grieving family before heading out to the exit. We found LS and TB sitting outside. Apparently SP had left already. He was waiting at the back of the line, so if I had actually gone to the back of the line (instead of budding in) I would've seen him! Doh!

As I was late, I decided to skip out on dinner with the crew and head to broomball. Unfortunately, I decided not to bring my equipment with me so I had to head home to pick it up first! In addition I needed to fill up on gas. I got gas at a station near the funeral home, which happened to be excessively expensive compared to gas in the city (71.5 cents vs 67.5 cents). But I was running on empty, so I didn't have much of a choice. All of these poor choices were adding up for a bad night. In addition to needing gas and picking up my equipment, I also didn't have any money to pay for broomball! So I needed to go by the bank to grab some cash before finally getting on the road to the arena.

I arrived late. Very late, but what surprised me the most was the fact that there were so few people who came out to play. We had at least fourteen people say that they would show up, but only ten showed up. This lead to a very long and tiring game for the rest of us. At least I got my exercise in..
