[5:24 PM PDT - Mandaly Bay.]

Here I am in Las Vegas finally getting some internet access through the business centre at the Mandalay Bay. Our conference is being held here, but we're staying at the Tropicana.

It's been very busy here, but what caught my attention was in one of the bathroom stalls. I was looking at the toilet paper dispenser and behind the half depleted roll there was this vertical bar with an orange end. On closer inspection, I realized that it was a hypodermic needle! What the hey?

Anyhoo, I don't have much time here since the place closes at six. Besides, I want to check out the Bellagio and the Venetian as well. I hope I don't end up falling asleep..

[5:38 PM PDT - Caveat Lector: Big Splinter.]

I got a picture and message from Madelaine regarding an impaled pole. Apparently the message is probably fake, but the photo is probably real.

[Wednesday, April 12, 2006: The Venetian and Bellagio.]

I spent most of the day staying at the booth, showing off our wares. I ended up meeting a whole bunch of people who I've heard on the phone but have never met face to face. It was pretty good actually.

Afterwards, I was able to go and check out the Shark Reef in Mandalay Bay. It was okay, although not that fantastic. I've seen better displays of aquatic life, but the touching pool was an interesting diversion.

I dropped off my stuff at the hotel after that and went in search of the Venetian. I had asked KM where the casino with the canal was, and he told me that it was the Paris, but a quick search on the internet revealed that the Venetian was the building I was looking for.

It was a lot further away from the Tropicana than the Paris was, but I was confident that I could make it there before the storm hit. The winds were howling and a thick line of dark clouds covered the horizon, threatening to overwhelm the tiny strip with a torrent of water. I tried to walk as fast as I could down the strip as I didn't want to be stuck outside when the rains hit.

I made it to the Bellagio near the hour so I hung around for a few minutes to watch one of the shows. However, just before the time approached, a lady announced through the speakers that the next scheduled display was canceled due to the high winds. I was disappointed, but I was going to be back after dinner so I hurried off.

I made it to the Venetian before any rain started to fall and went inside to check it out. Yes, there was a canal within the building, and the ceiling was indeed painted like the sky. The layout was nice, but everything was pricey in there, and the canal wasn't that large. However, there were gondola rides in it where the gondolier would sing for the passengers. Neat.

Not so neat when you're on your own.

I found a mall type eating area since the restaurants were way beyond my budget and went back outside after dinner.

For some reason, the storm never hit, so I took my time to walk back to the hotel. I passed by the Mirage, but was too impatient to wait for the volcano so I hurried back down to the Bellagio. Had I known that the Bellagio shows were every fifteen minutes, I would've stuck around for the hourly volcano eruption.

I did indeed make it to the Bellagio during one of it's displays, and was confused as to why I was missing it when it wasn't even close to the hour. I hung around anyway just in case something would happen during the hour, and there was a show indeed. I was quite impressed by the display of light, music, and water and would've stuck around longer but I wanted to get to bed.

It was only after I got back when I was reading up on the Bellagio show that I found out that it took place every fifteen minutes. Argh! Next time Gadget! Next time!
