[Sunday, April 9, 2006: Going to Las Angeles.]

I woke up early this morning because I needed to get ready for the noon flight and I didn't have time yesterday to finish my laundry and dishes. I got a call just after I woke up from Derelict informing me that he wouldn't be able to join us on our trip. This was bad because he was assigned to take some of the bigger pieces of baggage, and I was already maxed out on luggage. But there didn't seem to be anything else that I could do because the others had left already.

Fortunately, Derelict did come out to the airport to drop off the stuff (so I wouldn't have to pick it up), but moving the stuff around was a bit of a chore, and I had to go around getting more paperwork done due to the extra baggage and split flight.

Still, everyone was very friendly and there weren't that many people around, so the check in and customs was relatively quick.

On the flight, I ended up watching 'Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe'. I have not read the book in a very long time, so I remember the basic plot, but I couldn't remember any of the specifics. The computer graphics in the movie were good, but the movie itself seemed very rushed, and I couldn't really feel for any of the characters. If I was younger, I might enjoy it more.

[Sunday, April 9, 2006: Subject To Availability.]

I bought some post cards when I got to LAX. Then I had some lunch and had a short conversation with some fellow from London, England. I spent the next two hours looking for my gate. It took me a while to realize that I was in the wrong terminal (I was in terminal 3, it was in terminal 7), then I started walking from terminal 3 to seven and proceeded to get lost. There were no maps to speak of, and the signs weren't very useful either. Even after getting directions to the terminal, I had to ask two other people before I found my way to the right terminal, and the right gate.

When I got to look up the flights, next to my flight number there flashed,

"Subject to Availability"

What the hey? I began to understand the label, as the flight was not displayed at the gate for the longest time, and when it was, it had a later time. Then it had an even later time.

The delay gave me some time to write up some post cards though.

[Sunday, April 9, 2006: Crazy Taxi.]

I found a taxi to take me to the hotel. They had to call in a van to transport the projection screen. The driver then asks the other guy waiting at the taxi stop where he was going, and told him to get into the van. (There was space and his hotel was not far from mine.) Things were okay, until the driver starts complaining about the car behind him. He's saying that the guy's high beams are on, so he stops the car on the exit ramp and starts gesturing at the guy behind him then he takes his cell phone out and starts making a call. I exchanged glances with the other passenger, wondering what the heck this driver was doing. I figured that things would end at that, but then the guy puts the car in park, gets out of the van, and then starts yelling at the guy behind!

At this point I wanted to get out of the car. But I wasn't walking with all the hardware I was carrying with me. Then the driver starts stopping and going in front of the other car. I was a little worried that there would be an altercation right there on the street, but my hotel was right there, so he pulled in and starts complaining about the other driver. So I pay him off and get a receipt. The guy drives off and leaves all my stuff on the middle of the driveway, so I had to take a couple of trips to move the stuff onto the curb. There was no way I could carry all the stuff at once so I take a couple of trips to move the luggage into the hotel lobby, get checked in, and then moved into the room.

I'm lucky I didn't clock anyone with the projection screen.

I wasn't particularly hungry but I needed to eat something so I had some soup and a piece of cake before going to bed.
