[10:47 AM EST - No Domo-kuns around?]

I went searching for Domo-kun on Friday for Windelynn, but I couldn't find a single one at the place where I usually hunt for Japanese stuff: Pacific Mall. I talked to her about it and was told that you have to order that sort of stuff on line since it was pretty hard to find here. Good lord! I'm not gonna do that.

[Wednesday, December 27, 2006: Last minute shopping.]

I got to my parents place in preparation for dinner (for grandma) but was confronted with the fact that we did not get anything for my dad. In a fit of last minute binge buying, I hopped on my bike and rode to Canadian Tire for a gift certificate. I had to do a bit more shopping actually, since I never found anything for Windelynn, so I rode down to Pacific Mall.

The parking lot was full. There were no spots available anywhere, and I really didn't know what I would have done if I was driving. Since I was on my bike, I planned to ride up onto the walkway and leave my bike next to the bike rack. Unfortunately, when I looked for a ramp to ride my bike up on, I realized that there were none on the south side. I took a look on the west end and saw no way for any wheeled vehicles to get onto the walkway. The curb itself was higher than normal (at about six inches) so hopping the curb was not something I wanted to try. I reached the north end of the mall (after five minutes of stop and go traffic) and finally found a dip in the curb that allowed me to get off the street.

Is this mall just not designed for wheelchairs?

I found the model I was looking for at least, and I ignored the looks that I got from the throng of Chinese people and rushed home to wrap the presents.

We arrived at the restaurant way before anyone else did. I found out later that Windelynn was talking about a different dinner she was attending, and it was not this one. (She said "Sunday" and she meant "Monday".)

Ah well, at least there was a lot of decent food. This was the last gathering for the clan before we all went our separate ways.
