[6:58 AM EST - Going boarding.]

Well, this is pretty last minute. This will be my first time this year too. Oh dear, much to catch up on, so little time..

[Tuesday, December 19, 2006: Learning everything from scratch.]

I got up early this morning to go to Mount St. Louis Moonstone for some snowboarding. I did not want to drive because I did not feel like burning any gas, and I was too tired to drive. So TT, SN, and MCC came by to my condo and I rolled into MCC's car. I had been planning to sleep on the way up and back, but MCC kept talking so I could not just go to sleep.

We got to the hill just as it was opening, and we got our tickets. I found out that the hill actually closed at four thirty. No night riding at this hill I guess. When I strapped on my board and got on the lift, I forgot everything. Everything! I fell off the ski lift, and felt absolutely useless on the way down the hill. I thought that my board should have been goofy, so TT lent me his board. It was more balanced than mine, and WAY lighter!

I was still having trouble making turns and was not getting anywhere by the time we went in for lunch. Well, they all had some beer before heading back up onto the hill. On our first ride down after lunch, I continued my uncomfortable sliding when I saw someone zoom down past making perfect short radius turns. It was MCC! She was doing just as bad as me in the morning, but all of a sudden, a switch was flipped and she got over the hump. *shakes fist*

Apparently after that beer, she got the inspiration to ride properly down the hill, and that was all that it took. Man, and people say that alcohol is bad for you.

So on that cue, I tried to bomb down the hill, and it was indeed easier to turn, but my falls were much more spectacular. The snow was a lot softer by then, so it was not painful, but I sure did have a lot of tumbles.

I sort of got back to the point where I was last time I went boarding, which was to force the back with my uphill leg, but that is such an ungraceful way of turning though. On the second last run for me, I ended up taking a lot of spills, and the snow had hardened to the point where I was actually hurting myself. I wanted to try for one more run, but that was probably a mistake. I certainly hurt myself, and I now know why we always had a lot of accidents in the late afternoon when I was patrolling.

On the way back, we stopped off in Barrie for some dinner and then I got dropped off at home.

I knew I was going to be sore the next day (or three).
