Ah, my kernel crashed so I had to reboot my server. To my surprise, the machine did not come back up in a timely manner, so I took a look at the console and found out that it had panicked during boot up and stopped booting. I tried it a number of times with the same results.
I was worried as to what might be going on, so I looked up the problem and found out that one possible solution was to unplug the CD-ROM. This seemed a little silly, so I decided to try my backup kernel, which booted just fine.
I have since reinstalled the kernel and made a little configuration file change. Hopefully it will work better this time?

Okay, my machine boots up fine again. Well, as fine as it was before. There are still a lot of things that seem deprecated or have failed, but they are not huge problems. I guess I have the time now to see what I can do about it.

Ugh, I've got a headache and it doesn't seem to be going away. Maybe I've been staring at a CRT for too long?
