[12:18 AM EDT - A single party, that's good for the soul.]

So I went down to the party. I actually made it there in one piece and only slightly late. Okay, an hour late. (Which is pretty good for me.) I got to meet a fair number of new people. LB reminded me of KH for some reason. Ah crap. I think I forgot everybody's names already.

Oh yeah, I mentioned that I got myself a new car (after being asked) and I got this completely shocked look since.. well, hey, I'm still in shock myself. I can't believe I bought a car! It's funny but when I told MS that I needed time to find a new car after he had offered to buy mine, but he told me that buying a car was impulse buying anyway. I brushed that comment aside at the time, but look where I am now. (Well, there may have been some extenuating circumstances.)

So BM asked me what kind of car I got, and told him that I got an RSX. Both he and SB made a strange noise, and told me that they've been looking at picking one up for months! (And here I was picking one up the first time I walked into the dealership.) In fact, he basically wanted the same car I got! Then SB asked me,

"So, are you single?"

Geez, I guess the RSX does have a reputation for that doesn't it? I never did get to answer that question since I was being bombarded by other car related comments, but that one statement stuck out, and I was chuckling quietly to myself for the rest of the night.

Anyway, I guess she liked the presents I got and the card I wrote.

I enjoyed myself and got to sit back and relax a bit. I enjoyed some strawberry spong.. er.. shortcake and edited some fridge poetry. It was quite a relaxing party.

[12:50 AM EDT - Scent of a Woman.]

After I had figured out the payment scheme of the parking lot I was in (you had to pay the ticket before trying to leave the lot, not as you're leaving the lot). I got into the car and started to drive off.

Within moments, I caught the faint scent of something familiar. I turned to see if I could find it's origin, but it was gone. The more common smells of boiling fluids and burning joints filled my nostrils and I continued to drive. But the scent came back again. This time I did recognize it.

I read in a Batman comic,

"The strongest sensory link to memory is OLFACTORY. It is SMELL that binds us TIGHTEST with our past."

Not necessarily true, but I remembered. I remembered good memories; good thoughts; good feelings.

How could this be? Was my mind playing tricks on me? But again, as quickly as the aroma had invaded my senses, it had disappeared again, mingling with the rest of the car's odors. I started searching for it, started looking for that fragrance, to inhale a whiff of that perfume so that I could remember, to recall.. but it had faded away.

It would return to taunt me, when I was least expecting it. With my back turned and my mind focused elsewhere, it would creep into my conciousness like a gentle caress. But the source eluded me: It was always just out of reach, just beyond my grasp.

Then I was home. As I exited the car, I caught a parting whiff, one last tantalizing taste.. and it was gone.

But (deep down) I knew that it would come back: When I least expect it to.

[9:37 AM EDT - Them's the brakes.]

I knew something was funny last night. My brake pedal felt really soft on the way back from the party, but I decided that it probably was just a figment of my imagination (induced by the hypnotic nature of that scent), but this morning, I realized something was up because braking hard basically did nothing but slow the car down very gradually. Now this is a recipe for disaster, and I know this type of cooking. I popped open the hood when I got to work and noticed that the brake fluid level was very low. Well, I couldn't really see any fluid, so I'm going to have to pick some up during lunch. Wow, getting that new car seems quite sernedipitous doesn't it?

[12:13 PM EDT - AE86 Blog.]

Hey, I came across this site while looking for tips on replacing my brake fluid. Actually, it's more like adding rather than replacing.

[2:17 PM EDT - Sergeant at the Tire.]

I went out with HT to pick up some brake fluid while picking up lunch. On the way into the store, I saw someone who looked like BL. So I shouted out his name, and sure enough, it was him! (Funny how I'm seeing people when I least expect to see them.) Anyway, he came in to watch me pick up some fluid while he went on his merry way.

While we were out picking up lunch, HL bumped into us! Well, that's not that bizarre coincidence. It happens fairly often actually.

Well, I hope this extra fluid helps. I don't want to be driving on the highway without any brakes..

[7:29 PM EDT - The fluid's the brakes.]

Well, I added the brake fluid (it was actually quite close to empty) and.. nothing. It didn't get any better. Not any worse mind you, but I really do feel like I'm driving a death trap now since the brakes don't actually function fully. When I brake really hard, the car drifts left, so I'm guessing that a couple of the brakes actually failed. I knew this was coming ever since I got my new tires, but I didn't expect it to go so soon..

Wait, that was five months ago! Oops, I guess the calculations were right then. I just wasn't paying any attention.

I found out that I won't be able to get my money together until Wednesday, so chances are that I won't be able to pick up the car until Thursday.

I got some really good e-mail today. I really don't get too many free lunges. I should really get around to responding huh?

[8:03 PM EDT - Acquiring more insurance.]

Well, I've gotten insurance for the new car. That was pretty painless. Now all I need to do is reschedule the car pickup to Thursday and I'll be set. Oh yeah, and I need a certified cheque. Maybe I should just grab some stamps and put lots of stamps on my cheque. Not quite the same is it?

You know what? I really like this shirt. It feels really good! *rubs chest*
