[8:31 AM EDT - Power's back.]

Well, it seems from my calculations that power returned to our house around 3:07 AM. Cool.

[10:06 AM EDT - Turn back while you can!]

I started driving out to work this morning (earlier than usual since I actually went to bed earlier than usual) and was surprised to see that the traffic light outside my house was still out. That's not a good sign. The next one up was running, but traffic was at a standstill there which is a little ironic.

After being stuck for several minutes, I decided to call into work, and found out that there was basically noone at the office. The power was unreliable in the building and people were told not to come in (including me). So, I did a quick turnaround and headed home.

[11:59 AM EDT - No Air Miles?]

Well, it seems as if there isn't much for me to do apart from man my phone and catch up on stuff. I forgot to mention something though. When I went to pick up my photos yesterday, the guy told me that they weren't accepting my Air Miles card anymore. Apparently they have severed their ties to the reward system and instituted their own card. Oh. Sucky. Since I've got a digital camera now, the chances of me ever using this new card will be very unlikely..

[12:18 PM EDT - News Bytes: Twin Peeks.]

Hey, weren't these two annoying little brats before? What happened?

Oh, apparently SCO says that the GPL is null and void. Oh boy.

Here's the CNN coverage on the power outtage. Some ping pong fireballs.

[1:23 PM EDT - Internet's down.]

Great, my internet connection's down. I guess I can't do anything related to that..

Hmm, I guess I should eat lunch.

[10:37 PM EDT - No hockey.]

Well, my internet (and cable) are still down, so there isn't much I can do right now. I'm actually doing a bit of cleaning up, and I'm tempted to do some computer work, but I don't get chances like this too often to go to sleep early so I'm going to take it.

I headed out to hockey tonight and was a little dismayed to see a couple of intersections still without power (actually, I nearly missed one but the car in front of me stopped and that alerted me to it's presence - after I stopped thinking about cursing the driver). I was even more worried when I was driving down the street and saw that the street lights on the northern side of the street were lit (which just happened to be in a different "city") while the southern side was still dark. Unfortunately, the rink was on the southern side. The southern side was mostly farmland and some indrustrial complexes (with the odd house here and there) so it seems more prudent to provide power to more voters.

As I approached the rink, my hopes were raised when I saw that the street lights on the building's actual block were actually on, but as I drove closer, I saw that the building itself was dark. Pitch black would be closer to the truth. I guess it was closed.

On the way back, I noticed the huge lineup of cars waiting to enter the gas station on the corner. I saw it on the way out, and deftly avoided the traffic trap. I was surprised to see it only at one of the stations and not the other. I remember seeing many other stations in the same situation yesterday. I guess people really want their gas huh? (It was a little cheaper than normal too to boot.)

[11:04 PM EDT - Power biking.]

Since I didn't have much to do workwise, I decided to join girl, Dangerman, and Laz to go biking. girl wanted to go to the zoo, but we had one problem. We only had three bikes. Well, three adult bikes. We had one bananna seat bike which was so low and so small you could peddle by just using your ankles. We tried phoning around to see if anyone had a bike we could borrow, but we struck out. Eventually, since Laz was so gung ho about biking, he said that he'd bike with it part of the way. girl said that she would use it too, and I decided to try it out as well. Soon, we were off.

Along the way, we saw a couple of guys directing traffic at one of the intersections and girl applauded their efforts.

We ended up taking some back roads and some under used streets which have fairly little traffic on them. Unfortunately, there weren't any sidewalks either, but we did go through some rural areas of the city that are still surprisingly rural despite the proximaty of the urban environment around it. We went under a small brick railroad bridge and over a metal grated bridge. Saw a very old church and traveled over some very hilly terrain. It was quite entertaining actually, and I hadn't biked on many of these roads in over a decade. Laz, girl, and I rotated on biking with the bananna seat bike, but Laz did most of the biking in the first leg of the trip. We reached the zoo fairly quickly, but it was closed, so we weren't able to see if we could sneak inside. Laz did his monkey impression while he was on the bananna bike, which was good enough for all of us.

The trip back was through the urban areas of the city and it as a bit more difficult since we had to bike against the wind. girl rode on the bananna bike for a considerable portion of this trip, only giving it up to Laz after our last major hill. The trip back was fairly uneventful, but we did get a lotof exercise in. I haven't done this sort of stuff in years! I've got to get back into it again. Too bad I usually don't have the time..
