[Thursday, December 26, 2002: The Peak.]

Apparently the plan for today was to go and visit the peak. Before we left, I went out for a walk and as I was passing by the school yard, I saw a whole bunch of school girls in the tennis court holding hands, lifting a leg, and.. oh my lord! What are they doing?!? Oh, they were trying to clear a barrier with one leg. What a strange exercise.

I was going through my Hong Kong bills and noticed that there were different versions the same denomination of bills. It's not like the changing bills we have in Canada where the Bank of Canada issues new designs to fool counterfitters, but these bills were actually issued at different banks over the same time period! I found that really interesting. Like one from the HSBC, and another from the Bank of China, and.. I can't remember what the third bank was. Anyway, it's amazing that all three were considered legal tender. So who the heck was controlling monetary policy in Hong Kong?

We went on the tram to go by grandma's old apartment (which I stayed at the last time I was in the city) and she got me a ring as a present. I really didn't want anything, and especially not jewlery since the only thing I wear is a watch, and that only reluctantly. I just don't like wearing anything impractical.

After we had lunch, we hopped on a bus to the peak. The ride up was very scenic, but also a little scary. The roads were very steep, narrow and winding. The roads have low barriers (around one to two feet high) and the driver was speeding along at a very good clip. The fact that we were sitting at the front of the second level of a double decker bus didn't help matters either. It sort of reminded me of Initial D, without the music, and the drifting.

We hung around at the top for a while to enjoy the view and (very expensive) food before heading back down to the city on the tram. The weather was cooperating today so the view from the top was amazing. It was a little hot, but the clear weather and the sunshine made up for the week of rain and clouds that plagued our China trip. I ended up sitting in front of a pretty good looking girl with a British accent. (She was also wearing a belly shirt and low cut jeans. *oogles* Where's the belt line?

We picked up an Octopus card when we made it back down and headed out for dinner. At.. someone's place. I forgot who it was. Anyway, we went shopping afterward for some cheap "Polo" shirts on the imfamous Temple Street. There were some cute small MJ sets there, but my stomach started acting up on me and I wasn't in any mood to stick around. SO we ended up getting out of there and back to the apartment.
