[Monday, December 2, 2002: No sleep.]

I couldn't get any sleep last night. A combination of jet lag, the noise outside, and the hard bed conspired to rob me of any rest. The bed matress was hard as those mats you find in the public school gyms and we had to keep the windows open because it was too hot and humid otherwise. The apartment is only located on the first floor so any noise at ground level comes in loud and clear. In addition, the window faced some sort of quad, which is usually not empty until the wee hours in the morning. This meant that there was a lot of noise from outside, and the noise lasted until very late at night. It's an unfortunate combination, but I guess people get used to it after a while. Hopefully I'll get more rest tonight.

One of my dad's cousins came for lunch after which we went out to see the city. We went onto the Mass Transit Railway (MTR) which is the equivalent to our subway. The elevators on the stations are blazingly fast. If you weren't paying attention you'd be on your butt very quickly. Instead of taking MTR under the ocean, we took the ferry across to Kowloon. The view was spectacular. It was amazing to see all of the buildings from the vast flatness of the ocean boundary. It was as if there was a concrete jungle and I was in the middle of a meadow. It's too bad I didn't bring my camera though. After we got off the ferry, we hooked up with my mom's friend and picked up some clothes. Then we took one of the small busses to another meeting spot, but ended up with a fairly extensive (and impromptu) tour of the city.

We met up with a couple more people and I ended up going shopping for badminton racquets. Unfortunately, I didn't do much research before heading out *hangs head* but I think I got a couple of good deals. They're not strung, but I know someone who can do it back in TO.

After we got back from shopping, some of us went out for dinner before we headed back to my grandma's place to sleep.
