[9:07 PM EDT - White Anglo-Saxon Protestant.]

There was an interesting article up on ArsTechnica on the National Inventors Hall of Fame. It got me reading up on the Apple ][ and the other Apple machines, then I got interested in looking up the Fortune 500 companies (as well as the Global 500 companies).

Quite a bit of reading, but very interesting (for me at least).

In other news, Jax has put up an update with a question:

Can someone give me the definition of "whitebread"?

Err.. I always thought that white bread made from bleached wheat.

Oh, here we go. girl found some information on it. It seems as if white bread is made from all-purpose flour which is made from the endosperm of the wheat kernel. It contains basically most of the carbohydrates and none of the fibre of the kernel. Yummy.

Of course, she's probably talking about some "slang" term, like "Oreo", or "Banana"..

Thanks for the look-up on the term, QYV/girl. Indeed I was inquiring about the slang version. This term has been thrown around a lot lately at work, so I was wondering if "WASP/whitebread" entails more in its definition than simply being Anglo-Saxon.

Why-oh-why am I Jaz again?

Being sheltered from the rest of the world, I usually don't get exposed to slang terms like these, so I shouldn't hazard a guess to their connotations. In any case, I think one could figure out the overall meang of these slang words from their general use (if it is used generally). As a last resort, you can always ask..

Oh yeah, sorry about that Jaz.. I mean Jax. I don't know why I keep hitting that z (pronounced zed) key. Fortunately, I don't have any links to JAZ anymore, so it's not too confusing..

[clears throat and puts on Social Studies mortar board]

"WASP" generally means simply "White Anglo-Saxon Protestant," yes. "Whitebread" seems to have an even more negative connotation, generally stemming from the allegorical blandness and emptiness of the term. I believe it indicates a middle-class individual with purely suburban roots, which distinguishes them from terms such as "trailer trash" and the like. Possibly coined in retalliation to the term "cornbread."
