[3:30 PM EDT - Back, for a bit.]

So here I am, back in Waterloo for my last week at the University. Wow, has time flied. Anyway, I'm going to be spending most of my time today installing SP1 for Win2k and searching through my archives to see how much I can salvage from my hard drive. *crosses fingers*

[4:52 PM EDT - So far, so good.]

So far my computer hasn't puked on me yet, and I've been able to install my new network card and memory without a hitch. Now, all we have to do is figure out why I'm still only getting 10Mbps on the network connection..

But until I do that, I have to wait until SP1 finishes installing.

<- goes back to waiting.

[5:14 PM EDT - aIE!]

I'm not currently installing IE 5.5 onto my computer. Yes, it's the end of an era, with Netscape 4.7 crashing my computer, and IE 5 being preinstalled with Win2k, I'm probably going to be using IE on my PC. Mind you, I'll still be using Lynx through Sciborg and Netscape through Scienide, but it's still a sad, sad day indeed.. *has a moment of silence*

[6:21 PM EDT - ..and then I found it.]

Well, while I was preparing my partition to be formatted, I came across this program that RHS gave to me ages ago but I had completely forgotten until now. It's a program that will recover files from a zonked hard disk (even ones using NTFS). *looks at the now unempty zonked drive* Doh!

So here I am, waiting for the program to scan my disk to see if there's anything retrievable. Gosh darned it! Oh well, it's my mistake for not looking and going ahead with the formatting preparations. We'll see what I can recover.

[10:02 PM EDT - More difficulties.]

I got the program to work (finally), but I was unable to save any of the files that I might be able to recover! It has something to do with the fact that I can't save to the same drive that I'm recovering from (despite the number of partitions it seems). This means I have to save to disk. Unfortunately, the only files I need to recover are MP3s and video files. Both are huge. Okay, I have a Zip drive. It's too bad I don't have the DOS drivers for them here. Gah! I think I can get around it by borrowing another Zip drive, but I'll have to do that tomorrow. Until then, I'm SOL.

In any case, I should head home. Food is calling, and I need to figure out where I'll be sleeping tonight (since I moved the mattress home already).
