[12:00 PM EDT - No subject.]

Well, with the explosion down at the Bell Canada Simcoe Street "central office", I doubt that too many people will be hitting this site anytime soon. My e-mail and web service has been basically cut off from the rest of the world (inter-campus communication still works) so I'm just stuck doing work. Wah.

I was rather surprised when I heard the news of the fire. I didn't think that the communications disruption would be that large, but it seems as if the University of Guelph is also having problems with communications, as are bank machines, and even the TSE is having some problems. I guess we're not the only ones stranded in our little communications island now huh?

Here's a notice that the chemistry grads were just sent:

Because of a fire in a Bell Canada facility, the University of Waterloo currently has NO electronic (e-mail or www) contact with the outside world. Further details are available on a FLASH notice posted on the UW home www page this morning at 11:30 AM.

Now they tell us.

This incident reminds me of two things. First, the Star Wars quote:

"A disruption in communications can mean only one thing: invasion."

The second being the Patlabor Movie 2. Speak of putting all your eggs in one basket, doesn't Rogers use the same method for their cable modems? I wonder if we'll have something similar happening when the year rolls over?

Woo woo! It's back up! Back to doing less than boring stuff..

Last night, on my way home, I came across a little surprise. Well, I was blading on my usual route and rolled by the fence which marked the boundary between campus and the MKS/Opentext building. I didn't notice until it was right next to me, but I saw a streak of white fur to my left and looked at what I thought it was a cat. A few milliseconds later, I realized that the white fur was part of a very bushy tail which was mostly black (as was the rest of the creature). The only type of common enough animal that looked like that was.. a skunk! AH!! I realized this when I was two feet away from the guy. (Hey, it was dark, and it's hard to see black on black). The skunk was startled a bit as I passed, but seeing as I can't smell skunk odour, I didn't know if it let out some of it's fond aroma or not. I didn't stick around to find out. I kept going. Turning around to look back, I noticed that there was someone else who was fairly close by, but couldn't see the skunk because of the cars in the way (in the parking lot). I hope she didn't hit it.

Well, needless to say, I took a shower just in case.

My knee and elbow are still badly bruised from the term's games. I got them both injured playing broomball. (The knee when I was kneeling down next to the goal, and the elbow when I landed on it the day I forgot my shirt). There's still one more broomball game and two volleyball games left, so I better be in good shape for next week!

My shoulder's been sore for the past couple of days, and I realized today why. I've been sleeping on my side a lot with the warm weather, and I've had a tendency of resting my head on my shoulder. After a couple of hours of this, I can see why I'd get a little sore there. I hope to remedy this soon.

Hot and humid weather is a great time for some drinks that I like. Namely: lemonade, iced tea, and soy milk. The last one being the best IMNSHO. One can drink liters of that stuff without feeling full (unlike real milk) and it's a very good thirst quencher. I had a bit left so I opened it up and checked it out. Pee yew! Smelt like cheese. I shook it around a bit and noticed that the whole mass moved as one, and I realized that I wouldn't be having any soy milk that night (soy cheese anyone?). Soy milk has a tendency of going bad very quickly and I had gotten it on Sunday when I went back home. But come on.. four (okay, five) days? I only drank it twice! Ah well, down the toilet it went (eew).

I just realized that I had no meat at home. Don't know what I'll be making for dinner then. Hmm.. I really should go home and clean up my room. I've got some CDs to reorganize, files to sift through, and accounts to update. That and some marking and coding (and the BattleTech section) I have to finish.. I might do that tomorrow if the air conditioning is still on..

Time to go.. must consume food..
