[12:00 PM EDT - No subject.]

I'm in Vancouver! Yay! I can't talk long, but I got two little tidbits from weirDo. The first one was that the Ultima: Ascension (also known as Ultima 9) trailer is out at the Ultima Ascension Homepage. The second tidbit was the meaning of IPO. It actually stands for Initial Public Offering:

"A companys first issue of shares to the general public."

Time to get in line for the Redhat Linux IPO huh?

[Sunday, August 8, 1999: Storming the fortress.]

I wanted to obtain some sort of mode of transportation while at Vancouver (since we have to give back the car) so we checked in at the Avis rental center near the house. Talking with the chap, he told us that because of the holiday (BC day - Civic holiday here in Ontario), he only had really large cars available for the long weekend. They also cost $55 a day. Ow. Ow!

I didn't like that. Without any plans, we headed off to Simon Fraser University (SFU) by bus just to check it out. When people were telling us about the concrete roads and the concrete buildings, they weren't kidding. This place was built like a fortress! (Much like Scarborough Campus) Pops later told us that SFU had the second highest suicide rate in the nation, the top institution was built by the same architect! Apparently this architect also designed prisons, so I can see the cause of these numbers..

The motto for SFU is "Nous Sommes Prets". Sounds French for "We are ready". Hell, ready for what? World War III??

I got a few post cards and a planner from the bookstore (the planner's not for me. It's for someone else.. really!) before looking for BSB. It didn't take long, and he let us check our e-mail (I had 111 messages) and I was able to update the page as you may have seen from the above entry.

As we were on the west coast, I wanted to try out at least one sushi place before going home, so BSB took us to this nice little restaurant where we met a whole bunch (half a dozen.. which was more than our little 4 person cubicle could handle) of people. The food was good, and since Laz and MJO were mostly full, I was able to gorge on their leftovers as well.

BSB went to a bridge thing so we walked back to the house. Along to way, we stopped by a Dairy Queen for dessert. Well, I didn't get anything, since I really stuffed myself with sushi, but everyone else got something. The girl behind the counter was interesting. She was very pretty and she was oriental.. kind of. It took me a moment to notice that her features were mixed, which was quite fascinating since I don't see this sort of stuff that often. In fact, despite the large oriental population in the GTA, there really aren't that many people of mixed descent. Maybe in a decade or so..

On the walk back to the house, we passed by a funeral home, and these two girls that were walking in the opposite direction passed by us. I didn't actually hear what the one girl said, but MJO and Laz chuckled at her comment:

"I'm dying to get in there."

Uhh.. boy.
