[9:14 AM EST - Where is everybody?]

Umm.. I could've sworn that there was a meeting this morning. *checks* Yup, 0900 hours, but no location stated. I think I'm in the right place.. *looks around all worried*

Well, there's not much I can do but sit and wait..

[1:31 PM EST - New search engine.]

I've been playing around with the idea of a new search engine that would (hopefully) be faster than the one I have at the moment. Right now it takes a few seconds to search for a word, and for multiple words, just multiply that number by the number of words. I know of a way to reduce that time significantly, and I think I can reduce the search time to a couple of seconds even for a large list of search words. I think I have some time tonight to hack together a script, but it'll take some time, and they'll be bugs. So this is just a warning to any of you who want to use the search function that things might be a little wonky for the next little while..

[5:40 PM EST - Time to work on scripts..]

Well, now that I'm back home, I can work on my scripts in ernest. Hmm, then I also have my bookkeeping to update. There are also some calls I want to make. Dang, you think you're work is over when you get back home..

BTW, I've been using my new optical mouse for the past day or so. I don't notice much of a difference yet except for the fact that the wheel on this mouse is very loose. It's a little annoying, but I'll work with it for now.

Alright, time to check news.

[5:56 PM EST - Busy time..]

Well, there are quite a number of people working on their pages while I wasn't looking. Laz, as usual, has something up, while KGL has a little comment about the work she must endure. HaremPresident threw up a few more pictures, NVM's prolific as ever, and the kicker is that Tiffi put up an update! She's a little lost right now, but unfortunately, I have no advice for her. Well, it could be worse. I could have advice for her (and then she'd be doomed, but we won't belabour that point). Anyway, a bit more news to check and then I'm going scripting! (Whee.)

[6:19 PM EST - News.]

Oh boy, quite a number of links today. I'll start over at ZDNet with an article on the next version of Visual Basic and some potential problems with it. (Like not being anything like VB6.) Ever since I started learning this language, I've had a keen interest in it's development..

The other ZDNet article I linked is also related to Microsoft. Apparently, in order to curb spam, some innocent Hotmail users were caught in the crossfire.

Gamingwise.. *notices a sudden drop in interest* What the? Anyway, gamingwise, for anyone who can read Spanish, Blade has apparently gone gold, some company wants to make a movie using a game engine, and there is information up about The Moon Project. All of those links are from the ShackNews.

Finally, I wanted to throw in one last bit of geekdom. ArsTechnica has a link to an article about a group of scientists who were able to stop light. The article is unfortunately located on the NY Times site and since I'm not registered, I can't read it. It's kinda cool to hear about it though.

Okay, scripting here I come..

[11:09 PM EST - Some improvements.]

I've made a couple of fixes related to the search script. First of all, I didn't take into account partial word searching when highlighting the text in the journal entry. That should be fixed now. I've also replaced some of the journal code. It probably doesn't run all that much faster, but it's definitely smaller. My work on the search engine will have to be put on hold because there's a flaw with my algorithm. Curses! I will find a solution yet!
