[Monday, August 7, 2000: The end (beginning?) of an era.]

So today's the big day. Not for me, I still hadn't picked up the wedding presents yet, nor had I figured out where the marriage was being held, nor did I know what time to leave, nor did I get into contact with people I wanted to get in contact with. But I digress.

girl and I had decided to go out and get some floor lamps for the (soon to be) happily married couple. But we had to do some shopping since we didn't buy the lamps at the Bay. So we went to Lansing, we went by the Brick, we checked out Sears, and finally, we headed off to Ikea. *gasp* What a zoo! It was as if everyone and their lost long uncles and all of their children had been funneled to the one single Ikea store in Toronto that day. (I guess it's all of those getting-ready-for-university kids.) The place was packed, I had never been there before, and it took us a good hour to pick up the lamps (which we had already decided on getting but still had to go in through the horde of shoppers on the maze of furniture - called the "showroom" - to find).

*snort* Let's just say that it's an experience that not everyone should share. Still, we got our lamps and headed back to the house (at least I did) where I.. er.. didn't have much to do but wait. So I waited, and waited, and waited. I found out that I couldn't tie a Windsor knot properly (single or double), but it was passible, and people don't look.. really.. *adjusts tie*. I also found out that the convocation proofs that the *cough* professional photographers sent us was of the wrong person. (They sent us proofs of this girl who I sort of didn't recognize.) Finally, I decided to go to the wedding in sandals.

What? My foot was still a little swollen and I didn't want to squeeze it into a dress shoe, only to extract it later with a can opener. It's not like I was trying to set a precedence or anything. I probably should've worn socks though. Maybe if I wore high heels it would've been more acceptable, but hey, a guy's gotta do..

We eventually left for the wedding (which was being held downtown) about half an hour before the ceremony began. Despite girl's faith in my driving abilities (Ha ha ha!) I didn't think we'd make it on time.

Okay, so maybe I sound a little hypocritical considering that I'm usually the one who's late and don't really care too much, but hey, this guy is the first from our posse to get married and I didn't want to miss a thing! (To quote your friendly neighborhood Aerosmith.)

Anyway, we did get there around fifteen minutes late, but we only missed out on the preliminary stuff. Nothing too important. I brought my camera, but realized partway through the ceremony that everyone else had a camera, and they were all probably much better photographers than me, and even one guy had a digital camera (Coolpix 990 *drool*), so I put mine away.

I bumped into a number of familiar faces, and even though the wedding was small (around a hundred or so people) I think the number was pretty good. The smaller, the less intimidated you are by the people you don't recognize (since there aren't as many of them) and the more special you feel for being invited. *adds DeeL to wedding list*

I think I'll cut this short because people aren't interested in these sorts of things, but there was lots of eating, drinking, talking, singing, and dancing, and a whole lot of fun was had by all (even though I didn't get a teacup *pout*).
