[12:00 PM EDT - No subject.]

Went blading again today, HNT was actually going out the same time I was, and so I wanted to compare travel times (When I was walking, he'd pass me when I was halfway there - of course, he would sat in the garage for god knows how long since something was wrong with his car.. it's fixed now). Anyhoo, he caught up with me at the door, and told me that it wasn't fair, since I left before he did, and by the time he made it to the main street I was gone, yada yada yada.. It's not like the school is miles away, it's just one block over. I don't know why HNT drives every single day..

While we were walking down to the chemistry building, we bumped into Tchir. Well, I don't usually talk to him, and I doubt HNT does either, but I guess he was overhearing our conversation about blading (i.e. how bad the roads suck in KW), and he starts talking to us about these weird inline skates with 4 inch pneumatic wheels. Apparently they're filled with air and are used for "cross country" skating. Weird, now those babies you can trail blaze with!

Lunch was the usual wiener stand hangout. Dusty and RHS both came out with weirDo and me this time. In fact, they even stayed out a few minutes throwing the disk around a bit too. Dusty needs a bit of work with his throwing skills tho. Hopefully we can make this a more regular event (during good weather of course).

Been working on my CV and BattleTech stuff again. Made a bit of headway cleaning up and HTMLing those pages. I should be done with it soon.. (*knock on wood*).

Fred complained to me about some of his students again. It's funny, it always seems as if each batch of new students coming into the university are getting progressively more and more uh.. academically challenged. Is it just me? If this is truly what's happening (courses are being made easier so that enough people will pass), then what the hell is going on?? Are we dropping the bar when it comes to education? Are marks being overly inflated? I really don't understand. I think it was Renee who told me that many of the friends who she knew in first year who had scholarships (due to their high marks) fared much worse than her in some of their courses. Renee's a pretty bright girl so I'm surprised that she didn't get a scholarship herself, but the different high schools around the province have different standards when it comes to giving out marks.

I remember how my mom and sister were relating this story about my dad, how he wanted my sister to do well in school. "What kid of mark should I get?" she asked. His response was

"Seventy!"

That was pretty funny. I'd cry if I got a seventy. However, back then thirty some odd years ago, seventy was an amazing mark. Are we getting smarter? From what I've seen around me, and from what other people say.. I don't think so. I really think we should take a look at this problem. We don't want to continue flooding our universities with people who can't learn or understand the material. This would require "dumbing down" the curriculum, leaving the brighter students to learn less new material. The government is going to have province wide testing imposed again. Whether this action will solve our academia problem (the universities thought that OAC would solve this problem when it was introduced - Maybe if they were all at the Gifted level) we'll have to see.

Well, should mention that the articles that I have on my page were converted from postscript to PDF using a PS2PDF program. Some of you may not appreciate how long and difficult it was to find one of these.. only to see it at www.ps2pdf.com Gah!

MJO suggested that we scrap the idea of a cross-Canada trip and just go down to the Black Rock desert for the Burning Man. I FINALLY checked out the site (MJO sent this to me a month ago) and it looks interesting. Still, I don't think it's my cup of tea, sorry MJO.

For those of you people who watch anime, you might get this joke.. When I was talking with Sarcasm last weekend about anime that she's seen, I asked if she had seen Plastic Little

"You mean Plastic Nipple?"

Well, I thought it was funny.

One last thought before I leave here:

It's not what you know but who you've slept with.
