[2:32 PM EST - Driving Conditions: Westward ho!]

I was assigned a mission to pick up a new banner for work this week. The pick up location is in Mississauga, so I figured that picking up the banner in the morning before I went to work was the best plan. The place was only open from nine to five, so going after work was out of the question.

Indeed, I decided to leave around nine to miss out on the rush hour crunch, and I figured that going west from my condo would be against traffic. Mind you, I had not gone west at this time of the morning from my condo yet, so I had no idea what the conditions were like.

I could say that weather was not much of a factor. It was a little too sunny, but it was an issue only if you were heading south.

Anyway, things did not start off well when I got to an intersection and there was a large tractor trailer blocking the road. It seems as if it had just come out of the gas station or strip mall and wanted to turn left. But since there was no space to actually get into the left turn lane, it was stopped diagonally across the road while the rest of us had to wait behind until the truck finally was able to make it's turn.

Things did not get better when I got to the highway. Traffic was poor. Traffic going on the other direction was worse. At least we were moving. Sort of.

It took forty-five minutes to get to where I wanted to go, and during most of that stretch, I could see that the eastbound lanes were at a standstill. I knew that I was not taking that route back to the office.

Even the alternate route was very busy, but at least it was moving. I passed by one of the message boards on the highway which stated that there was one lane blocked before Islington, which is a pretty bad area to block traffic. The next message board indicated that two lanes were blocked. I got off the highway as quickly as I could.

The rest of the journey was uneventful. I can not see myself commuting long distances to work though. I think it would get to me after a while. I would much prefer shorter commutes, unless I was on a bike..
