[12:46 AM EDT - So that's what a squid is.]

I found out what squid meant in riding lingo.

[9:15 AM EDT - POPing Gmail.]

I've started popping my Gmail, although I'm not going to stop using it. That means double entry, unless I figure a way to filter the information through labeling or something like that.

[11:21 PM EDT - A shower feels so good!]

I just got home and took a shower. Oh my does it ever feel good!

This is what happens when you've been sweating all day.

Anyhoo, I'll fill in the details when I have the time. I need to do a bit of cleaning first..

[Monday, June 26, 2006: Hockley, take forks.]

I had a plan today. My plan was to ride to Guelph to visit Madelaine, and then ride to Waterloo to visit FlyingS. I usually never make plans because my plans never seem to work. At least if I didn't have a plan, I can blame any problems on not having a plan, rather than having a bad plan to begin with.

But that's neither here nor there. I had a plan for today.

I checked with SS and CC to see if they were interested in joining me out west, but they didn't want to go so far, so I tempted them with a trip to Hockley road and the Forks of the Credit road, neither of which any of us had seen, and places that we wanted to check out.

So, SS and I headed up to CC's place where we got ready for our trip out west.

The ride out was fairly uneventful as I let them take the lead. But once we got into the area, neither of them remembered where to go, so I took the lead and headed to the gas station where I bought the road map. After a quick break, it was pretty easy to find Hockley road. (There was even a cardboard sign indicating the road at the intersection.)

Actually, at the gas station there was a Tim Horton's which was packed with people when we got there. There were a number of scantly clad blond girls hovering around watching us and our bikes. They weren't the only ones watching us. One black man came up to me and asked me questions about owning a bike and fuel efficiency.

The ride on Hockley road was quite underwhelming, and we decided to check out the Forks. I had originally thought that the Forks were far north of Hockley road, so I wasn't planning on checking them out, but after talking with CC and another biker who was with us at the gas station, I found out that the Forks were actually west of the road. After checking the road map, I realized that the Forks were in the general direction of Guelph!

Well colour me yellow and call me Asian. The Forks may actually be on my way then! So I took the lead since neither of them knew where to go (neither did I actually, but heck, I had a good track record) and we started riding in the general direction of the Forks of the Credit Provincial Park. We got there, and I had no idea where to go, but SS pointed the way, and we started riding east. That's when I realized that we were actually on the road! So we turned around and rode through the Forks.

The ride was not bad. It was fairly short, but there was a double hairpin turn that caught me off guard. Fortunately we were going up it rather than down it. We stopped off at Belfountain for some ice cream before we parted ways. The two of them headed back east while I headed west. (Without a sad good bye.)

I swung through Guelph, but nobody was home, so I headed to HNT's place in Waterloo, but nobody was home there either. I ended up going to FlyingS's place and hung around for a few hours while I watched them play some new game and munched on some food.

I headed to Guelph before sundown as I found out that Madelaine was home, so I took the route I used to take when I was taking some courses at Guelph oh so many years ago. I did end up taking a wrong turn somewhere, but got my bearings and found the right path.

While I was waiting at the light near Madelaine's, I was looking off to my right when I heard a loud squealing next to me. I turned to see a car full of young girls screaming at me and rolling up their windows. I gave them a royal wave and decided to leave them in the dust when the light turned green.

Ahh, the benefits of having a motorcycle.

I stuck around Madelaine's place for an hour or so before heading home. The ride back was a little crazy since I have not ridden at night on the highway for this long or this far. I was told that it should be good since there shouldn't be any traffic, but the highway was packed! The wind was buffeting me and pushed me from side to side. There was one time when I started drifting into the right lane while a tractor trailer was next to me!

It's pretty crazy stuff when you're riding on the highway at night at those speeds with that much traffic: Not enough to slow down, but too many vehicles to maneuver. It's a very dangerous situation for us bikers.

I did make it home though without hitting anyone or falling asleep. But I think falling asleep is a good idea right now..
