[Monday, May 29, 2006: Riding West.]

I got a call at noon from SS which woke me up from my fitful slumber. Apparently he was going to meet up with CC and go riding out on Hockley Road which apparently has the best riding in the area.

I wasn't so sure I was able to meet up with them. I wanted to do some cleaning, and it was going to be a very hot day, and after the ride yesterday, I knew that I would be sweating buckets with my full leathers.

But after doing a bit of cleaning and eating, I figured that I should go and take advantage of the nice weather considering how we were ripped off during the long weekend.

So I told them that I would try to meet up with them at Tottenham as it was on the way there, and I could take the highway while those two would be taking the side streets (they were much further north than I and had a huge head start).

I found the ride on the highway pretty good actually. Apart from a minor accident, the rest of the highway was fairly clear and I was able to make good time riding up north. I didn't bring a map with me, so I was a little worried about getting lost, but I figured that I could call someone and find my way back (although I had not considered whether or not there was any cellular networks available up there).

Funny enough, as I was riding west, I passed by a gas station where there were two riders getting ready to pull onto the street! That made things much easier since I didn't have to track them down. So I pulled over and waited..

And waited..

And waited..

That's when I decided to give them a call, and that's when I realized that I had no reception. Doh! Fortunately, they came riding by at that time and we headed to our destination.

[Monday, May 29, 2006: Searching for Hockley.]

Things didn't go all that well after that. We took the wrong turn onto the 10th SDRD rather than at Tottenham Road. We ended up riding for some time before reaching Beeton. SS admitted that he was lost and we pulled into a corner gas station where we found out that the street that we were crossing (Main street) was the one we were looking for as it would become Hockley road! How serendipitous!

By now we were making good time and passed a couple of small towns. But then we hit a snag. We got lost again, and I started getting a headache. We found ourselves back at Highway 9 with no Hockley road in sight, so we pulled into a local Tim Horton's and tried to figure out what to do (after I gassed up).

We decided to give up for the day and head home, but this is what happened. During our trip down Main street, the street turns south and becomes the Mono-Adjala Townline. Hockley road is actually joined to this street in the middle of a little town. So, that's how we ended up off the beaten path, right at the doorstep to the "best" riding this side of the city. How annoying!

It was a good ride though, and we got a lot of kilometers in. There were so many riders out there as well! We passes by a group of thirty or forty riders while heading up to Beeton, and along the highway, riders were showing up about twenty percent of the time. That's a ridiculously high count when you consider how many riders there are out there.

Most of the riders would wave when we passed by (as did we) no matter what type of motorcycle they were riding. What a close knit group.

We'll be heading out here again in the near future to find the fabled Hockley road, but until then, I'll keep looking at the maps..
