[4:41 PM EST - Get ready for broomball..]

I should be heading out tonight for KW. Hopefully everything well go well. It seems as if there are some campus rec games going on tonight. Maybe I should try sneaking into one or two of them..

[Sunday, March 31, 2002: Alumin(i)um breaks?]

The plan for me was to head down to KW, meet up with Mr. Broomball and possibly play some broomball to get used to playing on big ice again before heading to HNT's place to sleep. I made it to the CIF fairly early, but when I got to the parking lot, I noticed that the gates were down! What the..? They were open the last time I was here.. Ah well, all I needed was a loonie and I'd get through. *checks wallet* Hmm, no change. *looks at toll booth* Hmm, only accepts coins. This is not looking good.

I ended up parking illegally next to the arena and found Mr. Broomball convening the games. Unfortunately, he didn't have any change on him, so I was left with meeting up with HaremPresident to pick up the house key and perhaps some change. I was fortunate enough that he had a stash of coins available so after talking with him for several minutes (and announcing my presence to FlyingS via ICQ) I parked my car, and went to play some broomball.

Despite playing in the campus rec recreational level, moving around on big ice was good practice. Near the end of the game, I took a big whack at the ball and the head of my (aluminum) stick flew off. Ack! That's not supposed to happen! I got off the ice and examined the damage. Apparently, the shaft of the broom is made of aluminum and the head is made of hard rubber. However, they're attached by a wooden plug which had broken off at the tip of the shaft. Argh! That's exactly the sweet spot where you're supposed to hit the ball at (which is a good sign that I'm actually hitting the ball properly).

Annoyed and dejected, I headed back to the car to pick up my spare broom. (I learned my lesson of bringing an extra broom after Victoria.) Unfortunately, my spare broom was wooden, which meant that the weight distrubution was different, and all of my power shots became very weak. I couldn't hit the ball hard at all! (There goes my shot at the hardest shot competition.) Ah well, at least it let me continue to play, as the game after the first was a little low on players, I joined in the game (with some prodding from Mr. Broomball).

I don't know why I played so much when I was supposed to get up early the next day to drive to Rochester. Ah well, I was in the mood for broomball and I couldn't refuse another game.

So after the game (which was around midnight) I headed to the house to sleep. I got to the house and noticed that there was a light on. I thought that HNT was out of town, but I might've been wrong. Anyway, I put the key in the lock. It wouldn't turn. I tried the other lock. That didn't work either. I tried the garage door. No dice. Frustrated, I rang the doorbell. Moments later, the lobby light came on and a strange thought crossed my mind: "Is this the right house?"

As if to answer my thought, an old man opened the door and looked at me. All I could stammer out was

"I think I went the wrong house."

To which he replied

"I think you're right."

And with that, he closed the door. How embarassing, I wasn't even drunk!

So I drove next door, which looked a lot more familiar (the first house did look a little too well kept) and I got in without a hitch.

I think HNT told me where he hid the linens, but my brain wasn't working at full capacity, so when I went into the room and noticed that there was no pillow or blanket on the bed, I was kicking myself for not bringing a sleeping bag. I eventually scrounged around the living room to come up with some cheap pillows and a blanket thing. This was also the point where I realized that I didn't bring any nightwear. There was no way I was going to go in buff when:

  1. The blanket was that thin.
  2. The house was that cold (it was freezing outside!).

So I went to sleep in a sweater and pants. Oddly enough, after a couple hours of fitfull sleep, I still ended up being very cold. I never did get more than a few hours of useful sleep that night.
