[Saturday, March 16, 2002: Early broomball, on time hockey, late skating.]

Ugh. I need sleep. It's too bad I have to wake up early to go skiing tomorrow. I think I'm going to kill myself this weekend. Anyhoo, I left work early so that I could make it to Waterloo to make it to broomball practice. I got there early and sat around for a few minutes before the rink was cleaned and we were able to get on the ice. We spent most of the time talking about tactics and positioning, but we didn't get much practice in. There was a scrimmage that the contact team was having the hour after, but I wasn't invited to play with them. Considering that I wasn't wearing a cup, and the fact that I did a number on my calf (I hit it against the door lock) I wasn't in the best of conditions to play. Of course, that's why I headed home to play hockey..

I wasn't planning on playing hockey tonight. This meant that I didn't bring my stick along with me. Fortunately, I had left broomball early so that I had plenty of time to go home and get my missing equipment. Fate decided to conspire against me however. The moment I entered the city, I ended up in a traffic jam that stretched nearly all of the way to the exit I was coming off of. This meant that the half-an-hour buffer I had expected disappeared and left me with a small time deficit. Doh.

I had listened to the traffic reports while I was still outside of the city and I overheard that the traffic was moving well, which is why I was so surprised with the sudden (and very long) traffic jam when I entered the city. Unfortunately, most of the radio stations I listen to only give traffic reports on the hour. There are, however, a couple of AM stations that give reports every ten minutes. Remembring this after spending fifteen minutes hitting my brakes, I switched bands and went to the news stations. I got static. Doh! The antenna hasn't been fixed yet! *smacks head against steering wheel* That's why I stuck with the jam all the way. I actually saw a couple of cop cars speed past through the shoulder lane, but I didn't know where the accident was until I passed by it. By then the lanes had been cleared and traffic was moving fairly well.

Hockey went fairly well. We didn't have as many people show up as normal, so I got a lot of ice time. I was able to borrow a stick but it was lighter than what I was used to, and it threw me off a bit. I got whacked on the shins again. I really should go out and get some armor..

After hockey, I rushed to another rink to meet up with OMok and go skating. I didn't actually know anyone there so I didn't talk to them much, but I did get an hour's worth of skating in. The place was okay, although it was a little on the crowded side. This meant that I couldn't actually do anything but skate. No tricks unfortunately.

Now, I'm home and I want to go to bed. I think that's a good idea.
