[5:40 PM EDT - Logan tax break.]

Hey, I just got my two hundred dollars in the mail! Whee! I'm rich! Actually, not really, the two hundred goes towards the few hundred I'm putting towards my trip to Victoria later this month, so in reality, I'm just less poor.

Oh, for those of you who don't live in Ontario, you might not know that the tax paying residents in Ontario are getting a tax break due to the booming economy (although the evonomy is cooling down ATM). The maximum (tax free) Ontario Taxpayer Dividend payment is two hundred dollars (which is about 130 USD - damn our falling dollar!).

Whether or not this extra money is just a buying votes, I'm still gonna take this money and run! *runs*

Oh yeah, I completely forgot about this, but I was shocked when I first read about this in the newspaper. With the death of Pierre Trudeau, the government wants to rename Mount Logan (the tallest mountain in Canada) to Mount Pierre Elliott Trudeau. What? I don't think so. girl sent me a link to an on-line petition to save Mount Logan. This quote sums up their position,

"Ottawa must now explain not only why Trudeau is worthy of our nation's tallest mountain, but why Sir William Edmond Logan no longer is." - Jim Beatty and Tim Naumetz Southam News; The Vancouver Sun

Although I would agree that Trudeau has done quite a bit for this country, and was a very charismatic leader, what the government wants to do is a little silly.

That picture link, BTW, has moved here.

I kinda feel sorry for Chretien over the Mt Trudeau thing. Sure, it was somewhat ill-considered. But the way I heard it, he wanted to do it because he and Trudeau had planned to climb the mountain together one day. I don't agree with it, but I can appreciate the gesture.

The government's already backing down over it. It wouldn't likely have happened anyway. The federal government can't unilaterally impose a name change like that.

I read about the government backing down on the Mount Trudeau idea this morning. One suggestion that I read was to name the trans-Canada recreational trail after him. Anyway, onto other things..
