One thing I forgot to mention about the class was that half of the people taking it were of Chinese descent! I found that quite peculiar. I also found that those Cantonese speakers will have more trouble learning Mandarin because they are so used to using one dialect that it will interfere with learning the other dialect.

The Cantonese speakers definitely sound less white! Dion told me that I am, "so white." I'm practising some sentences and I think I'm doing okay until I hit that "ren". I feel so white.
