[12:16 PM EDT - The wrap's gone. Long live Suexec!]

It took me a whole day and a half to figure out why my CGI scripts weren't working! Just a few lines here and there did the trick. *sigh* If only things like this were a bit more easy to trouble shoot. Mind you, while I was trying to fix one thing, something else would break, so it just kept building and building..

Anyway, it seems the site's mostly working now. I've got to enable SSL now and I should be laughing. PHP5 doesn't seem to be out yet for Apache2 (which was the source of most of my problems), but things are working so far..

[3:00 PM EDT - Getting SSL in.]

I think I've got SSL working. Actually getting this was a walk in the park compared to getting my CGI working. There was one hiccup when I was trying to access scripts on secured port, but I think things are good now?

[3:03 PM EDT - I'll need to test this a bit.]

I think I'm pretty much done with the major updates. The transfer took longer than I had anticipated, and it's basically took out half of my (long) weekend. (Staying inside during this amazing weather was killing me!)

I'll need to check out some of the components of this site though, so it will take some time before I feel comfortable with this "upgrade". But at least it paves the way for me to start working with some sort of relational database rather than with my flat files. Time to get out of the stone age huh?

[4:01 PM EDT - MySQL clients.]

I've been looking around for a good Windows MySQL client, but since I've never used MySQL, I can't really tell what's good and what's not. I found two that show promise. The first one is actually from the MySQL site while the second one looks swanky.

[4:38 PM EDT - A SQLite diet?]

I just found that PHP5 has SQLite embedded in with it. Would it be worth using instead of MySQL? *rubs chin*

[4:41 PM EDT - Now that I have space..]

I can actually start putting files on here for transfer. I've tripled the size of my hard drive (although I started with a gigabyte) so I have a bit more leeway with what I can install on the machine. I've been looking at the packages that I've been installing and they're only like a megabyte here or a megabyte there. Not like the bloatware we've got with Windows..

Oh geez, I should go and close the server back up again (which means bringing it down again). I don't think I'll need to do any more hardware chagnes for a while.

[4:56 PM EDT - There is one vulnerability.]

Apparently my system is vulnerable to attack. I'll have to figure a way to prevent that from happening, since I think I accidentally did it to myself.

[6:22 PM EDT - It's alive! (If you want to call it life.)]

I was able to get my P75 to boot up with the extra 270MB hard drive I had lying around. I had forgotten that I had installed Debian on it so was a little surprised to see the machine actually start up. Anyway, once my clothes are dry, I'm going to take off. Geez, I'm really late already..
