I got a forward from SW about the hazards of wearing contact lenses at BBQs. There's a similar story on this blog. I'm not sure if it's true or not, but I haven't found much about this story from Google (although I haven't searched very extensively).

that melting contact lens story sounds like utter bunk to me. in fact, i'm pretty sure that what they described is impossible, unless that dude was placing grilled burgers over his eyes. try boiling some contact lenses -- i'd be willing to bet that they don't start melting until well past a temperature most people are comfortable with. he couldn't possibly get enough heat energy by "looking at the grill". the whole story sounds fake, much like the ones on Snopes.com.
frankly, i'd be embarassed to know someone who thought this was true.
