[4:01 PM EST - I've seen these before.]

Strange, I remember seeing weirDo's hosts.allow altering script and he had a script to check the downtime of his site many years ago when his cable connection wasn't that good. (He used it as proof to complain to Rogers for a refund.)

I did a quick search for a perl script to do his hosts.allow trick (I've got his script actually, but was interested to see what else is out there) and came across toad-one.org which had those two that looked so familiar. They're written differently of course, but I just found it interesting. I wonder how many people keep reinventing the wheel?

Ah, remind me to get my oil changed in the very near future. I'm getting up there in milage..

[4:58 PM EST - So that's what the "s" means..]

I found this page on securing suid programs useful.

[6:04 PM EST - Game seven.]

Well, we had our first game seven match last night. I was pretty sure that we were going to lose since we were missing most of our top players, but for some reason, all of our players played very well. We eventually won a very close fought game. I even got the winning goal! Whee!

Hmm, my internet connection seems to be very slow.

[6:10 PM EST - Staying mum.]

Hmm.. you know when you've talked with someone and agreed about something, but afterward you don't talk about it for a long time and you're wondering if the deal's still on? *rubs chin*

I rather not be the one bringing up that topic..

[7:56 PM EST - There's always someone before me..]

Hrumph, I was thinking about the difference between success and happiness and came up with something similar to the quote below:

"Success is getting and achieving what you want. Happiness is wanting and being content with what you get." - Bernard Meltzer

Which I found on this page of happiness quotes after a quick google search. Oh well, at least I'm not the only one who thinks that way.

[8:07 PM EST - I would if I could.]

Yup, another quote I was looking for was part of a song I found after a bit of searching.

"I would if I could but I can't, so I won't." - John Forster and Tom Chapin

Let's see what else I can find..

[8:41 PM EST - Oriential Heroes.]

Ah, since I was taking it easy, I decided to do some searching for "Oriental Heroes". Now, the literal Chinese translation is "Dragon Tiger Door" which roughly means "Dragon and Tiger School". I had read it regularly when my uncle was a regular collector of the series. He had started collecting it basically since it's inception, so I've read through the first hundred and fifty issues, skipped a hundred, and then read from the high two hundreds up to the low seven hundreds. At that point, he stopped collecting the series since it got so expensive (it was a weekly series at nearly five bucks a pop fifteen years ago!) and so I lost my only source for the series.

Anyway, there's also a Yahoo group for anyone interested in more recent information. (Since the website I linked looks a little dead - although it has some good synopses of the issues he's posted.)

[9:34 PM EST - Bodhisattva.]

This is cool. I've never heard of it before.

[11:21 PM EST - Backups are your friend!]

Whew! I was fooling around with the script I wrote to remove mutt headers and I accidentally deleted a message I wanted to keep. I had forgotten that saving a message in mutt automatically flags that message for deletion, and I didn't realize it was gone until I went to look for it again to do more testing (to include the carriage return for DOS).

Now this was a really small message, but a very important one, and I was rather distraught that I had casually removed it. Fortunately, I remembered that I've been doing daily backups of my account ever since the hard drive died months ago, and voila! There it was! I was saved!

No all I need to do is to figure out a good way to keep weekly, and monthly backups.
