[2:42 PM EST - RPM hell.]

Argh. I was thinking of installing the offline HTML validator on my machine thinking that it was only a simple perl script. Unfortunately, it required a couple of files. Those files required other packages. Those packages had other dependencies. Those dependencies..

YOu get the idea. I think I'll just give up while I'm ahead. I don't want to break my server..

(I'll just install it after I've switched distributions.)

[2:43 PM EST - Fixing links.]

Oh, apart from the validator, I was checking a number of external links and I've been trying to fix some of them. There are several dozen for me to fix on the site, and that excludes everything in the journal!

Wah. Maintenance is never fun.

[8:40 PM EST - It's such a pain..]

Maintenance is such a pain in the.. I really shouldn't sit down too much should I? Apparently It's not good for the back.

I didn't do all too much today. I went on a quest to install the validation script and decided to abort the mission when I realized that I had to reinstall quite a number of libraries on the system (that after already reinstalling quite a number of packages on the system that weren't actually designed for the system). It's not like I need to do this. I just got caught up in the act of wanting to complete a task, which turned into a quagmire of commands and code.

I'm slowly learning to walk away.

[8:43 PM EST - Lesson learned.]

Ah ha! Something I had overlooked when I was implementing SSL on my site. When going "back" to a form from which I had submitted information, Internet Explorer automatically clears the cache as a safety precaution.

This makes my preview code pretty much useless since I can't go back to the original form to edit it!

Hrumph. I'll have to figure a way around this limitation. (Yeah, yeah, I can "write better".)

[8:46 PM EST - Back to what I was talking about..]

Anyway, I didn't do much today. I went to KW's place to fix their computer. A power failure killed the system, and after a number of hard boots, the whole compter started doing funny things.

It took me an hour to figure out that the system.ini file was broken, but I spent the time updating their operating system and patching up some security holes.

I've got e-mail to write up. I haven't been in the right frame of mind to write this message in the past couple of weeks though. I don't feel like I have the time to properly convey the information I need to share.

But I have no time to waste. The clock's ticking.
