[10:10 AM EST - Snapped!]

Argh! I broke my brush/scraper! Well, the brush still works (although it looks like an old toothbrush, all splayed out) but I broke off the scraping end when I was clearing the ice off the car. Ugh. I really didn't even have to push that hard since the ice was soft. Argh!

I also realized that I'll have to shovel the drive when I get home. I decided not to do it this morning because it'll just expose the asphalt to the ice and clearing the ice off of asphalt is a lot harder than clearing the ice that's sitting on top of snow.

Things are looking awfully busy this weekend. Not good.

[Saturday, February 7, 2004: A night to settle.]

I didn't have anything planned for tonight, so I went by Laz's place to pick up some things I was looking for (a spanner for hard drives and power cord splitters). Unfortunately, he didn't seem to have any available. The best solution (he suggested) was to actually use a second case to house the extra hard drives. I'll have to think about that.

Oh, I noticed a new car in Laz's driveway. Actually, I saw it the last time I was at his house, but I forgot to ask about it. (Yes, I read his site very sparingly, although I don't do much information surfing anymore. Most of my surfing is related to finding ways to improve my site, and.. that's about it.) So, when I asked him about it, he told me that it was a new car for himself. I was stunned:

"When did you get it?"
"Last week."
"When did you get it?"
"Last week."
"When did you get it?"
"Last week."

(Is there an echo in here?) I had to be sure. But yeah, now I know TWO Echo drivers - much to Pops chagrin I must add.

Afterward, we went out to dinner with Pops and LK. She looked rather young, and this thought was reinforced when we were at the restaurant. As we were walking to our table, she spotted one of her friends (who was actually quite cute) and there was an immediate explosion of energy. This was not a surprised and elated greeting, but more of a jittery, giggly commotion that I haven't seen since high school. Then I found out her age, and that explained a lot.

Anyway, the dinner (TexMex was the flavour of the night) was okay and we headed out to the Second Cup afterward. Actually LK wanted to go to the Second Cup to watch her friends play. Apparently they were part of a jazz group which perked my interest (since I didn't know that Second Cup had live music) and she also sweetened the deal with a vanilla bean hot chocolate. (I got the final say since I was the one driving.)

We got to the coffee house and it was packed with people: High school kids. I walked in and realized that all of these people looked so YOUNG! I guess I haven't been in a group of teenagers in a long time, so I haven't realized how much I've gotten used to the type of people I see at most of the gatherings I've been to. (Mostly around the same age or older - much older.) So when I was thrown in the midst of this teeny bop quagmire, I felt so OLD. Some seemed to have way too much energy for their own good,

"OMG, they're dancing!"

was something I think that Pops muttered. (Which brought a chuckle to my lips.)

The jazz group wasn't bad. I was quite impressed, considering how young they were. Laz and Pops mostly stayed outside. I guess they didn't feel comfortable being in the midst of a group half their age..

After picking up our drinks (the vanilla bean was a tad bit too vanillay - but good in small doses) we headed back to Pops place for a game of Settlers of Catan. Then I headed home.
