[3:42 PM EDT - Down, down, down.]

Anyone own any stocks in the stock market? Mutual funds? How are your portfolios? As bad as mine? Got any money? Feel like investing? I think I'm going to throw some cash in. Heck with the 50 basis point drop in interest rates, my money ain't doing much sitting around..

Hmm, but I still want to save up for that car..

Quick - try and invest in defence companies. Is the CIA a listed company? :P

Profiting from the recent disasters is a bit chilling... especially given that there is some evidence that unusually large numbers of shares in airlines, insurance companies and arms manufacturers were sold off in the days and weeks before the attacks. Seems to suggest that a large group of wealthy people not only knew about the terrorist attacks, but also profited highly from it.

An interesting way to make money.

Hey, are you suggesting that I'm profiting from the destruction of the WTC? *rushes off to buy stocks*

Anyway, there have been rumours floating around that bin Laden was one of the folks who profited from the market drop yesterday. I wouldn't be surprised that the folks behind last week's attack would try to make money off of their deeds, but unless they are careful, they're just leaving a bigger paper trail for the US to follow. Then again, they probably were careful.. Hmm.

Why would people have been selling off arms manufacturers stock if they knew about the attacks? Those strike me as the companies who are about to do well. Whatever companies hold the major arms supply contracts for the US army have rosy futures.

(Very few major stocks are "clean" anyway. Aside from all the environmental stuff, labour law stuff, etc, I think you'd be a bit surprised how many companies are involved in the defence trade in some way. It's a several hundred-billion dollar industry, in the US alone.)
