Before we headed off to the house warming party, we headed down to pick up Hugo from some clinic thing. The lady who owned the place seemed really nice, and she had this dog, Pepe, who was very.. aggressive. It was a tiny dog, but it "challenged" each of us to try to take his little doll from him. (It was a pretty sturdy stuffed doll.) Needless to say, that dog's got teeth that'll make sharks cower in fear.
Anyway, off the to house party. It was somewhere down in the west end, in some renovated house (it looked a little grungy on the outside, but it was really nice inside) and met a whole bunch of people that I hadn't. After a few minutes just sitting around in the living room, one of the guys picked up a couple of tapes that was lying around on the floor, and the other guy in the room told him to stop playing with his Kare Kano tapes.
*blink*
What? I grabbed one of the tapes. It WAS Kare Kano! (Episodes 17-20 and 21-24.) *starts drooling* The owner of the tapes looked over and said:
"Oh, so you're an Otaku?"
I decided not to answer the question directly. (What was I supposed to say? "No, but I watch animé"?)
Anyway, he continued on to say that he hadn't seen these episodes yet, and was interested in popping them in the VCR. I told him that I had only seen the first eight (I think I've only seen the first eight), and the other guy just looked at me and told me that I was missing out on the funniest episodes! (I was? Holy!) Then, he started going on about these other episodes and said that, (spoiler warning!)
"..in this one they sleep together."
*blink* Oh thanks for spoiling that for me! (Gee.)
A little while later, Sarcasm (hime) wanders into the room and greeted us, saying something about making cookies. Later, after she noticed that I was staring at the Kare Kano tapes, she asked me how much I'd seen. I told her only the first eight, and she said,
"Oh, so you haven't seen the one where they sleep together."
What.. Ack.. Gah! Is everyone into "spoiling the plot" or something? (At least it wasn't anything new.)
After a few games of Fluxx (some bizarre card game) and some munchies (including those yummy cookies) I found out that the majority of the Fanboys were actually present at this housewarming party. (I had not seen any of them before.) One comment: They are definitely Otakus (in any sense of the word), and they are proud of it! Very much like the CSC folk that litter the front row of the auditorium during our shows. They spouted a lot of in-jokes that most casual anime watchers wouldn't be able to pick out. (Yes, I did get most of those jokes if you were wondering. No, no, don't comment.)
After munching on some homemade.. uh.. I forgot what it was called. Chicken in tomato sauce and vegetables (on rice). Sarcasm popped a tape of Outlaw Star into the VCR and we proceeded to watch a few episodes (three actually, too bad we didn't see more). Then it was time to go home.
Actually, it was pretty good overall considering that I only recognized two people at the party. They were all very friendly, and the house got filled up, but not crowded, which is a good number of people.
Anyway, KGL has an update up (something about Prada?) while Jax has a whole slew of entries talking about stuff from horoscopes to line dancing. (That "Bye Bye Bye" comment made me laugh out loud. Reminded me of the little choreographed dance routine during the last wedding I attended.)
Okay, enough with that, I've got a phone call to make.

Fortunately (or unfortunately), I had already spoiled it for myself by reading all the Kare Kano summaries at AMO. BTW, I picked up the entire series on VCD (Chinese subtitles) yesterday. Mu ha ha ha ha... However, the English subs shown at CTRL-A captured more detail. Do you know if these tapes you saw at the housewarming were subtitled by Pero Pero Anime?

Grr.. I'm not sure if the tapes were subbed by Pero Pero, but he got them from Kikiwai (however you pronounce it). I've never been there before, but I'm getting my (english subbed) copy from a fan subber. Hopefully the quality will be good..
(Oh yeah, what's this about the Asuma Sex Dance?)
