[5:46 PM EDT - Tat tvam asi.]

I've finished reading "The Shockwave Rider". It was pretty interesting, and the last part of the book had more of an entertainment slant than a philosophical one. It gives a fairly eerily probable prediction of a possible future considering that it was written in 1975, and.. ah geez, I forgot the quote. I think it was Porter who coined. First it was the legs race, then it was the arms race, now we're in the brain race. (Hopefully we'll finally have the human race.)

Maybe I'll go look it up to make sure.

In any case, I'm going to check out what Kung Fu is like. *stretches atrophying muscles* I hope I don't kill myself..

Man, I wish I could sit at home reading all day. :)

If you like John Brunner (and don't mind being depressed), try The Sheep Look Up. Very dark, very dystopian, yet very compelling. I've gotta read Stand On Zanzibar and Shockwave Rider one of these days. They're both sitting on my shelf... Of course, I doubt I could polish them off in 24 hours.

Has anyone actually read Stand On Zanzibar? If it's the book I'm thinking of, I have it sitting around here somewhere.. I've started it several times, but it's so disjointed that once I put it down, I feel no compulsion to pick it up again.

The Shockwave Rider was very disjointed, and I can see how I couldn't plow through it the first time I tried to read the book. I wouldn't be surprised if Stand on Zanzibar had a similar style. (I expect that to be my next book to read.)

The Sheep Look Up is also disjointed, with maybe half a dozen seperate threads running through the book. They don't start intersecting until about half-way through. But it wasn't so much plot and characters that kept me reading.
