[1:55 AM EDT - First loss in a while.]

Wow, I think this is the first time in a long time that I was part of a team that lost a CAHL hockey series. Ah well, it was still a good game, and at least my feet don't hurt so bad this time. I even played better than last week!

[Sunday, May 18, 2003: Hockey pullies.]

Well, it seems like I've got the house to myself this weekend. Since the car's out of commision, I can't really leave town. So it's the same old, same old for this long weekend for me.

I went to tutor and played roller hockey. The game was pretty good, and I got my exercise in. Tutoring was interesting as well. I was posed a question of lifting a two kilogram weight twenty centimeters with a one kilogram weight. You're given a work area of 60cm by 60cm by 60cm, and you need to use at least one pully (a maximum of five and a maximum of two in series). You're not allowed electric motors or springs. My idea was to use an incline plane to reduce the gravitational effect, and use two pullies to redirect the one kilogram mass's force to pull the larger mass up the incline. It should work, unless they're trying to drag a fur ball up a velcro plane. What other ideas are there? I came across the use of a double pully where you use different torque to pull the weight up. (Although I'm not sure if sixty centimeters is enough height for this to work properly.)
