[Sunday, February 17, 2002: Stickey.]

I got my hair cut today. I got the same hairdresser as last time, although I sure as heck didn't recognize her. She recognized me! (That's a little scary.) Well, I got it cropped short yet again. I foresee my current bottle of shampoo lasting a while..

I also went to patrol today. The weather was pretty crappy. It was raining near the house, but it was more like wet snow at the hill. The snow was packing snow and very slow. Since I haven't waxed my skis yet, I ended up pushing myself down most of the trails. That's never a good sign. I think I'll wax them tomorrow.

Hey - you know that guy who told you about the candle? I asked a few skiiers I know, and they confirmed that paraffin wax is fine for warm days and warm snow - but it won't work well on cold days, apparently.

Are your skis the kind that actually absorb wax? (ie: a vaguely porous base) If they are, I gather you need to do more than just rub a candle on them - do a google groups search for "ski wax paraffin" to get lotsa suggestions.

Hmm, you're probably right. On bitterly cold days, parafin wax would probably freeze and become awfully brittle.

Anyway, I got myself an iron so if my base is porous, it's soaked up enough wax to last the rest of the (short) season.
