[10:07 AM EST - This really isn't a lot yet you know..]

We've got a winter storm warning for today. The estimated amount of snowfall is around fifteen centimeters. It's significant, but not all that much. The reason why it's so bad now is because it's the only real storm we've had this year and there are quite a number of drivers out there who aren't used to it.

Actually, I wasn't having any problem with this weather so far. It's the going home part that's bothering me..

[4:25 PM EST - So maybe it's not going to be that easy..]

The snow stopped falling early this afternoon. I figured that we were basically out of the woods at this point because we only ended up getting a few inches of snow. Being hungry, and not having brought along lunch, I went out to grab some grub. The way to the car was a little annoying since the snowcover just happened to be an inch deeper than my shoes, which meant that I had copious amounts of snow accumulated within them by the time I made it to the door. Furthermore, the windshield had a thick skin of snow. The lazy-man approach of wiping them off with the blades proved fruitless. I think the blades moved about a centimeter before surrendering to the weight. As I mentioned before, there was no scraper or brush in the car (and I haven't had time to pick one up) so I had to clear out the snow with a CD case. Effective, but hard on the fingers. The moment I cleared out the last bit of white stuff, the wipers came back to life and I was back in business.

The drive out wasn't too hard. There was enough oomph in the engine to get me through the snow, except that I started having trouble with clearing the last bit of ice from the windshield. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the spots were growing in size and number!

Freezing rain. Crap.

I again decided to take the lazy-man way out and set the wipers to full speed and heater to max. Since the engine was still cold, all I ended up doing was spreading the ice over the rest of the windshield. I still had an ace up my sleeve however, and tried to use the windshield washer fluid to help melt the ice.

I heard a low beeping sound when I tried to flood the wipers, and a bright yellow light flashed on the dashboard. No fluid. Crap!

I made it halfway down the street before the windshield was covered completely by ice. I only had a small window near the air vent where I could see traffic clearly, but fortunately there wasn't any really.

Well, it wasn't all bad I guess. I did make it back safely, and the moment I got back happened to coincide with the moment that the plow was leaving the lot. A freshly cleared spot, just for me! Whee!
